I don't understand the appeal of Trader Sams. To me, the food isn't anything special. Is it the ambiance? The drinks?

The food is average bar food IMHO. The drinks get a solid "B" compared to other tiki bars, but its the theming, the antics/special effects that take it to the next level and make is popular. But if you don't like the style of drinks they have nothing else is going to "do it" for you.

My DD20 loves Trader Sam's so much she wants to go to DL for her 21st birthday solely for the purpose of having a cocktail at the bar at Trader Sam's! And we're a 3 hour flight from Anaheim.

I had the pleasure of taking my newly turned 21 year old son to Trader Sam's Enchanted Tiki Bar shared an Uh-Oa! ok well I had a couple sips lol. Still a great memory I hope to never forget.

I’m surprised Disney hasn’t converted reservations there to lightning lane as a $20/pp cover or something just to get a seat inside!

Careful, don't give Disney more ideas!

It’s the feeling, the ambiance

Much like the Blue Bayou. For me, both places completely transport me to another time and place.

I used mouse watcher, a paid dining alert, and one popped up for Trader Sam yesterday. Got seated at the bar. Lots of fun antics. I got 2 of the tiki tiki tiki tiki rum , which would have been cheaper at our local Bahama Breeze, but hit the spot. I got the Ramen without the fish cake. It was a bit too salty, but it was hot. It had steam. And was my first hot food, in a series of unfortunate dining events. I grew up in SoCal, now live in PA, and I remembered summers as being hot. But evenings have been in the 60s, and to not shiver through WoC, I ended up buying a Route 66 hoodie, xtra xtra large, only size. So a hot bowl of soup, a drink with a kick, and uh-oa antics all hit the spot. At 3, there were a number of open seats at the bar, so would be worth asking. By evening, walkups are a no-go.

Amazingly I scored a Trader Sam's reservation for August 28th by being online as soon as the reservations popped up. I can't believe it! I have never been before, so I'm really excited after reading what everyone has shared here.
