Looking to go to Trader Sam's on Jan 4 for my birthday. We won't make it until later in the evening- after home from illuminations. Will we likely still get a seat? Any strategy I should adopt to increase the odds?

I think you've got a couple of things working in your favor: 1) A great deal of the super-heavy holiday traffic is probably gone, and 2)Monday night--the locals aren't likely to be hanging out at work on a work/school night. One more thing, after 8 there are no children allowed, so families who might be taking up a lot of space will be pared-down considerably.

The patio usually had open spots. Esp if you're going from a 9pm Illuminations, back to the hotel & then there around 10:30/11pm I'd say you'll be fine.

I THINK the patio might close up earlier, but I'm not sure. And in all honesty, I had Fri/Sat's off and we only had trouble getting inside the first few weeks it was open! Then the hype died down, if you want to get inside, they'll give you a pager, and you can sit outside & enjoy the same menu while you wait!

We went to Trader Sam's on a Wednesday night in November at about 9:30 and were able to get right in. There was one table open and it was a large table. We went ahead and sat down there and ordered drinks. Another party of 4 came in and asked if they could join us at our large table. We, or course, said "sure" and had a great time meeting new friends.

only way to increase the odds is to go when it is less busy (usually weekdays). Because it is going to depend on how many people are in there and how long it takes them to leave.

If you have to wait, in my experience they usually call you in about half the time they say it will take. And just because they let you in, it does not mean that you will be able to find seats. Sharing with others is possible but you may have to wait inside until somebody leaves to get seats.
