Trader Sam's questions

Hi! I'm wondering if it's still as tough to get into Trader Sam's when it opens at 4pm as it was when it first opened? What's generally the best time to go? We'll have some flexibility...

If you purchase a souvenir glass, can it be sent to your resort (I feel like I remember some of the park stores do that, but my memory is faulty sometimes), or do you have to carry it...that may also affect our timing - either going on the way back to hotel for a rest, or after a rest on the way back to the park! My guess is you carry, but figured I'd confirm!

Feel free to recommend your favorite drink - right now I appear to be basing my opinion solely on the cook tiki glasses, and it's a tough decision! Thanks!

I had no problem getting seats after 8 p.m. both times I went...? Obviously that would be nixed if you plan on bringing kids!

In regards to the souvenir glasses, I really don't know, but I suspect you will have to carry them. Perhaps if you went into the gift shop and purchased something and asked they included your bag with the glasses with your gift shop purchase...? I have no idea if they would even consider it or not, but maybe it's worth a try.

No kids this trip! We're thinking maybe early evening before going back into the park, instead of right at 4, so hopefully. If not - patio! We can always put the glasses in a locker (hopefully there will be one available that time of day!). Thanks!

They don't ship the glasses anywhere. But you don't have to get one.

All of the drinks that have souvenir glasses make the place do something - they're all fun but Nautilus is my favorite.

Oh, but I do!! No, I understand they sell just the drinks but I really want one, lol! Yes, I heard the drinks have different little things that they do - tough to decide! The nautilus one looks so cool!

I understand completely - I enjoy my hippomatta-maitai glass. Reminds me of the tiki lamp in the DVC rooms.

That one's really cute! So it the one that's like a chip and dip bowl? I think it's the Uh-oh but Stitch is eating the page and I can't look at the menu. But I thought it said it was a drink best "shared by two", so my sister and I would just be fighting over the glass/bowl!

The hippomata-maitai is a one person drink, clear glass with an embossed tiki face - the mai tai at Red Robin is in the same family.

The Uh Oa is bigger and is for two.

How busy it is at opening (and later) depends on the day. I've posted this before but in early December, we had very different experiences going at 4:00 on a Saturday vs Sunday vs Monday or Tuesday. Weekends are busier.

As others have said, I don't think they ship the souvenir glasses; you have to take them with you.

Our favorite drinks are the Krakatoa and the Nautilus (shared). As far as favorite glasses, we like all that we've gotten: Nautilus, Hippopota-Mai-Tai, and Rum flight.

Have fun!

You can see the glasses on this menu:

The Nautilus is awesome, but it is the most expensive ($52 for drink+glass last I checked, could've gone up since then).

We're probably doomed no matter what - we're going the week after Easter so probably busy every evening! I think we'll probably be heading there around 5:30 or 6, give or take, but we'll have some time. Can you order the souvenir glasses on the patio, I wonder? The Krakatoa looks awesome! It says it has Sam's Gorilla Grog - I wonder what that is! So the Nautilus is a shared drink? Then I have the fighting over the glass with my sister issue, lol!

I want them all, lol! thanks for posting this! I'm a rum fan, so pretty much most of the drinks themselves are pretty appealing! I would splurge for the Nautilus, but isn't it a lot for one person? Or is it the glass you're paying for? I don't know, the rum flight is a dark horse...looks cool!

I don't know whether the souvenir glasses are available outside...maybe? I know they don't do the accompanying antics.

I suppose you don't have to share the Nautilus but it's $50+ with the souvenir vessel and there's a lot of alcohol!

I've heard that yes the glasses can be ordered outside. I'm excited to go this July!!

Good to know - my DH and I tried to go on our date night on our last family trip. We didn't have time to wait to get inside, so we had an app and some drinks on the patio. It was wonderful, but it didn't occur to me that I could try to do the souvenir drinks...I ordered this tall pineapple dole whip drink that was fabulous - I'm a sucker for dole whip! But alas, no souvenir tiki glass with that drink! If we end up on the patio this time I will ask!
