Trader Sam's Questions?

I wanted to add that you can wait with the buzzer outside on the porch. There are tables and a bit of lounge furniture to sit at. When we were there a couple of weeks ago there was an excellent ukulele player singing out there.

There is a check in podium. If it's completely full the host will take your name and give you a buzzer until you can be seated. I've never waited more than 30 minutes even when it was new. It is small but there's constant turnover because a lot of people only go in for one drink and don't linger long.

If I understand correctly, they have a max of guest allowed in at one time. The buzzer is for when you are allowed in not when you have a seat
to sit in. You may still be standing when the buzzer goes off.

Thanks for the information. We've always been given seats when responding to the buzzer, sometimes at an individual table, sometimes side by side at the bar. I don't recall ever seeing anyone standing.

We were there Thanksgiving weekend. Got a table on the terrace within 5 minutes of arriving. My underage child was with us and ordered the non alcoholic Skipper Sipper. We ordered the Spikey Pineapple and Mosquito Mojito. There was beer and wine as well.

we were let in and had to stand around until a seat became available and then it was seat yourself

Us too. And it wasn't explained either. Quite annoying since we left a great table outside and some awesome ukulele music. How the heck would we expect that meant there wasn't actually a table open?? We ended up sitting with some very unlikely table mates and had great fun though.

That is another thing worth noting much of the seating is a shared table with chairs around rather than separate. We enjoyed that too!

I was there with a party of four last Tuesday (Nov. 29), got there around 5 and immediately got a table. The bartender that waited on our table mentioned that the week after Thanksgiving was really really really slow (thus why we were able to find a table for four in a very small space upon walking in).

We had speciality drinks with alcohol (Krakatoa, Uh-OA, and the Tiki Tiki Tiki Tiki Tiki Rum). Those around us had the Nautilus and Shrunken Zombie Head. The drinks were great and the interaction with bar staff fantastic (their routine when someone ordered the Nautilus was the best).

There were several non-alcoholic options offered on our drink menu, as well as wine and beer. Also, if you order a $12 Krakatoa, for example, you don't get to keep the glass it came in...to get a souvenir glass, you order the drink and pay an additional fee to get a pre-wrapped souvenir glass to take home (not the one used for your drink). At least, that's how it was explained to us. And the fee for the glass is about $10 or more over the price of your drink.

The entire experience was so much fun that we will be back even if its a busier time of year with a wait to be seated.

the price listed on the menu for the drink with souvenir glassware is all you pay. There is no add on fee above that for wrapping. you are correct that you don't take the glass you were served in home you go to the window on the way out and pick up a nice clean one.

Thanks everyone for the replies!

I just bought the mug from the terrace outside at Christmas and was only charged for the mug.

Do you remember how much you paid? I don't drink alcohol, and I really just want to get one of the special mugs lol.

They do have non-alcoholic specialty drinks, but you can only buy the glasses if you order the drinks they come in.

Do you know if any of the non-alcoholic drinks come in a special mug?

Does anyone know how long a wait might be if I got there around 8 p.m. after a park day? I realize this can be different depending on the day. I just want a rough estimate.

It was about $11 or maybe $12 ? Not too expensive at all.

We visited the Trader Sam's at the Poly last year, and it is SMALL (as others have said). I want to emphasize this point so that you're not disappointed as I was. The room couldn't really be any smaller than it is and still be viable. I was expecting a larger space with interactive decor like the Adventurers Club or the Tiki Room; it is nothing approaching that. It's just a small room with a little South Seas decor and expensive drinks (but the mugs are really cool and unique). I'm not knocking them for any of this, just be aware of what you're getting into when you go.

Yeah, it's very small, but the volcano eruption is pretty cool, didn't you think? The guest participation is fun too.

Was there for the 2nd time on Friday night for about 1.5 hours...was worried about being "let down" after our first visit in January (which we both LOVED)...no worries, had a blast again, and even sat at the bar for a bit this time.

Has anyone tried the appetizers here? I'm thinking of making it a dinner. My Dad and I have started to use the Nomad Lounge at AK for lunch, and it usually fills us up. I'm just wondering how the food is here, and how much food you get with the appetizers? Thanks for any info.

Even if the bar itself is full, there's extra seating outside on the terrace. That's where you want to be for fireworks viewing anyway.
