Trader Sam's Question

We will be at the AKL next week, but thought about taking a trip to the Poly to check out Trader Sam's as I heard it was pretty nice and a trip to a Tiki bar is always fun. However I have read that there can be a long wait to get in to the Grotto. My understanding is that if there is a wait to go to the inside Grotto, you can still go to the outside terrace and order mostly the same food and drinks. Is that correct? I would not want to get all the way over there only to find we can't get served. I'm OK with either location.

IMO predicting availability of the inside part is very difficult. We've walked right in during so-called "prime" hours, we've had to wait at 4pm, and various shades of grey in between. I have never had any trouble getting a table outside, unless you just get really unlucky and there is a big crowd around for some reason.

I'd say it's worth a trip, especially if you enjoy a good Tiki drink. Just keep an open mind and be flexible with whatever you run into.

Depending on what time you're going to be there, you can watch HEA from the outside part (may be a bit of a crowd around that time).

Thanks. Not sure the best way to get there (other than Uber) from the AKL when the parks are closing. Will look into that.

We always head to the Poly for a drink. I enjoyed it much more when they had that awesome fountain, but they ______ that up. Honestly, we enjoy the laid back atmosphere. We have never been to Trader Sam’s but I heard it was awesome. Let me know how you liked it.

When you enter Trader Sam's, there is a host/hostess desk and, if the bar is full, they will take your name and the number in your party and give you a pager.

From AKL....

1) Bus to MK if still running, take either the Resort Monorail around to Poly (will stop at CR and TTC before Poly); OR take the GF/Poly resort boat (will stop at GF first, before Poly) (ETA: This is assuming MK is still open or within an hourish of closing and all transportation options are still running)

2) Uber/Lyft/Taxi/Minnie Van (will be quickest)
