Has anyone had any experience with the Reef Resort in Grand Cayman? I believe it is a Royal Resort. We stayed at Royal Mayan in Cancun a few months ago and are thinking about trying the Reef. Reviews on TUG seem pretty good and the website makes it look very nice, but I'd love to hear from anyone with a DVC perspective.

Thanks!

It was initially codeveloped by the Reef and the Royals but no more. The Royals are not involved at present. I hear it's a very nice resort but in an isolated area. TUG has reviews. The manager there has posted on the Rent/Trade board about a direct exchange in the past and is a regular contributor on TUG, he seems like a nice guy. You may want to join TUG and look at the reviews and/or contact him for info. You could also post or search on the TUG BBS for other info on the resort. I've looked at the info and pictures and the only things that scare me are it's remoteness and the high cost on the Caymans. If you want to sit and watch the ocean, it sounds great. If you have some specific questions, I might be able to find out a little more for you.

Thanks, Dean. I'm a TUG member and the reviews I saw were encouraging. Right now we're in the very preliminary stages of thinking about a trip, so I'm mostly interested in how it compares to DVC and the Royals in Cancun. Those are the only timeshares we've been to, so we're pretty spoiled :)

It's interesting that the Indies Suites there has been sold and the owners will get nothing. I know I've seen a couple of posts from DVC members that have been there. Why not ask on TUG about comparisons to the Royals, top Marriott's and the like. Or you might email Tom with the question about other DVC members who have been, I wouldn't be surprised if he can tell you one or two.

I have never stayed at the Reef Resort, but I know they are operated by the same people that operate Ocean Frontiers Dive Shop. We have used this dive shop and they are very well respected throughout the "dive community"
The resort is on the East End. About 30 to 45 minutes from the airport. It is isolated in the sense that it is about 45 minutes from 7 Mile Beach where most of the resorts are. If you want the "excitement" of a beach resort you probably will want to consider that. On the otherhand that side of the island is beautiful and not as developed.

Sorry if this is a silly question, but can someone tell me what TUG is?

I was also interested in reviews of both the Reef Resort and the Grand Caymanian, and I'd be interested in reading reviews as well. But I'm not familiar with TUG.

Here is a link to the TUG (Timeshare User Group) board, http://www.tug2.net

It's a website where timshare users share information about everything related to timeshare properties (to do or what not to do, buying, exchanging, etc.). If you're new to timesharing, the site will point you in the right direction.

I just signed to this site. I love it. I need to still join TUG but the BB and basic info have been very valuable to read. I am looking for a last minute trade for a quick and of summer trip and there are lots to choose from (to far away for me but if you want to pay cash for a last minute there are lots of options. I still love my DIS boards though because there is even more info here. Like being able to post a question like this one asking about a place in the Grand Camayans. DVC members have the best knowledge about specific properties on Disney property and exchanges using our points.

Thanks! Looks like a ton of great info, which will help in planning a big family trip.
