Has anybody else run across this situation?

I was in a trade window with another player, and had offered a rare item for another rare item. The other player says "Hang on while I check fan site to see if this is a good trade".

I thought that was asking a bit much. Was I wrong not to hang about while she got her trade approved by her friends? She kept saying stuff like "hang on, I'll have an answer soon". But I told her I had to go and ended the trade.

Nutty.

That is a new one on me...

I have gotten IM's from friends saying "hey is this a good trade for that" and my usual answer is: IS it something you want and what are you trading? Then I tell them my opinion or give them something to consider about the trade...

But those people have never been in an active trade at the time

I don't think it was rude of you to leave- I think I would have said something to the effect of come find me if you are still interested when you get your answer.

I do think if the other person initiated the trade they were being incredibly rude in seeing if it was good first- I am one who thinks you should have some idea of what is being traded before a trade window is open-

sure I've haggled with the window open but if I have what they want I need a general idea of what they want to trade first.

I get so many random trade requests for magic (and I don't have inferno lol) or a hat or clothing and when someone sends me the request I always either decline openly saying I'm not interested in trading [insert name] and if they are persistent I've been known to collect trade requests windows and just move them out of the way on my screen

I'm getting a little off your topic- but I get so many that say "let me show you" when I ask what they are offering- and so I go ahead and open trade only to have them explain how poor they are or just flat out beg for something lol or they offer me cheap pins or kellog furniture and get upset I won't accept it...

This is a really good topic though- if more and more players are visiting these sites maybe a list of trade etiquette and other common courtesies in the games would be appropriate- we all have our complaints but maybe we just need to offer better education for those out there that really have little or no other guidance...

Unfortunately I think this has become more common since VMK has re-released items. Unscrupulous people will try to make a quick trade for formerly "rare" items before it is common knowledge that they have been released again.

Personally, I wouldn't wait until I was in a trade window to check it out, but I can certainly understand why someone would want to check a few things before completing a "rare" trade. (Checking a few things does not mean sending a message to everyone on your friend list and waiting for all of them to reply - a quick check of Dis or the "other" board should be sufficient)

Remember - If a trade seems too good to be true, it probably is. :thumbsup2

personally I would just do what you did. Say I gotta go. Like you should sit around and wait for someone to approve their trade for them LOL

Not to mention sometimes someone who has no clue answers those "what is this worth" thread.

Tell them to get back to you when they let someone else decide what they want LOL :)

I think it was asking a bit much for you to wait around while the other player checked out the site. However, it was wise on that players behalf to make sure the trade was fair. Instead of waiting in a trade window, that player could have found you later if still interested.

My son does alot of trading. There is this one person he trades with regularly that always tells him to come back in an hour, so he can think about it. Actually that's pretty smart so that they don't rush into anything. Or do impulse trades, they'll regret later.
