We are going on the Med repo sailing in May and I would like to track the ship as it sails across the Atlantic. I am assuming there are plans that are filed prior to sailing that shows the latitutde/longitude of the where the boat is planing to go (I guess kinda like flightplans that that the airlines must file before flying)

My hope is to get a big map and place mini ships along the route we take...
Is this info open for the public? If so, how do I locate it?

Also, as a backup, does the daily navigators put the location of the ship?

Thanks!
Jennifer

i can tell you that when we sailed the maiden voyage of carnival liberty in the med, you could follow it on the computer (to see exactly where the boat was) also they had a large tv screen in one of the public areas that showed the same map with a little boat marking--you are here--it also offered info like speed, waves, eta, and other info for all of us non-nautical people. it was neat!

They do tell you the Lat/Log of the ship on the stateroom TV as well as in the lobby. OR... just ask ScottH he has his GPS with him and can tell you exactly where you are at any one time! :rotfl2:

Every port we came into during the Panama Canal cruise I would ask... are we where we are supposed to be :thumbsup2 :lmao:

On my cruise, I took along a little handheld GPS with me that I purchased from a sporting goods store. If you get a Garmin that costs about $150, there are some units that include maps with them that will show you specifically where you are on a world map, all the way down to street level. Make sure you check the units out, though, so you get one that actually has a map rather than just a compass.

You won't be able to use them in your cabin, as there is too much metal which will interfere with reception, but if you go up to Deck 9 or 10, you can get some pretty specific information, to within a few feet of where you are.

We also took along a GPS unit. My husband brought along maps of the route we were supposed to take. He got flight maps at a pilots store - why he couldn't get nautical maps - who knows. :confused3

We had no trouble taking the GPS reading from the balcony of our cabin. It turned into a map reading lesson for DS9. They had great fun with it. What our cabin steward thought of the map hanging on the wall? Well, I expect they've seen stranger things.... :rolleyes1

I got really obsessed with the Bridge Report TV station! It was really cool. They give Long/Lat and have a little map showing the ship's position. They also give weather and water conditions. I spent several nights awake at 2 AM watching.

Ditto. something new to obsess over (but in a good way :upsidedow )

How do people find cool stuff like this???

yeah..now i can not only see the Magic on the webcams, I can track it too...

MUST GET A LIFE, MUST GET A LIFE!!

See the Magic on the webcams? The only webcam I know of is the one at Port Canaveral? Don't tell me there's one on the ship?!?!?!

Okay...tell me there is.

I have known about kroooz-cams.com, but the tracking site is new to me! Very cool! I always look up the Magic on kroooz-cams, now I can track her aswell! Gosh, I think I'm a bit obsessed!:rotfl:
