Dc keeps accidentally hitting the web button (do NOT NEED) and using up all the minutes.

Does anyone possibly have a text only that is sold without the WEB functions? Thanks all.

i just got my phone this week and have done that a few times........... one way i found to cut down issues is to connect t wifi while home.... so at least if i hit it by mistake i doesnt subtract minutes................. dont know if they sell older phones anymore..............

I have a Net10 phone. It only makes calls and does text messages. It is pay-as-you-go and works out to $15 per month.

If you don't need a lot of minutes a trac phone may be cheaper.

A lot of my students have iPod touches and have texting apps on them so they can text via wifi. That might be an option if your child is just texting.

Inside settings you can turn off data so that even if you hit the button it won't connect.

thanks Anita. I think i will order a net10 phone.

how do you know which phone to purchase though? I don't want one that uses internet... Are all Net 10 without data?

I'm confused. Are you looking for a phone where it is impossible or not so easy to use the internet data functions or are you looking for a new phone plan?

What kind of phone/plan do you have now? For instance - we have data disabled on two of our phones so that they simply cannot accrue data charges.

new phone, new plan. It's for a child, so need to make it only text and cheap. We tried a cheap tracphone but dc kept accidently hitting the data button and we spent $$$$ quickly.

ah yes. My oldest did that often with his first phone and his voice minutes. He'd put it in his pocket and accidentally dial a number and not even realize it. We had to go to a Clamshell type phone.

I have a Pantech Ease phone with the slide out keyboard for texting. I'm not sure what Companies it can be activated on, I assume most any of them that take a Sim card.

I had the ATT customer service people disable data for me. Whatever plans you are considering you might ask if they can do that.

If you want to stick with tracfone you can call them and have them disable the internet. It took me 30 minutes on the phone with them and I had to ask for a supervisor but after the person I spoke to verified twice with her supervisor that as long as I was the one asking for internet to be disabled it was possible...now if I hit the browser I get an error of some sort and no minutes are used.
