TR - A Gregarious Ghostly Gallivant - Final Thoughts Finally Posted!

How awful with the flight. I hope that person was okay. That sucks that you and Roxy are both sick. I hope you both feel better before the trip is over, the last time we stayed at the Disneyland Hotel I was sick as a dog. It is a nice place to be when you are sick, all Disneyland TV all the time.:goodvibes I am glad the weather is clearing up, and I hope the rest of your trip is wonderful.

Yeah, it made for a colorful flight out for sure. DLH was a good place to be sick and was also a good jumping off place for DL. The weather was pretty wacky, but pretty good overall.

Hey Mustard

I hope that poor person is okay

Sorry you both have colds

Hope the sunny weather coming in makes you all feel better

Have fun :woohoo:

Yes, the person came back to and was given a bag of IV saline (didn't even know they carried that on planes) and there was a nurse on board who kept up with his vitals and such. Interesting side note, the flight attendant said that she has never flown and had an emergency where there wasn't a doctor/nurse/emt on board. Go figure.

The sunny weather was nice in a way, but it was also humid as all get out. Almost felt like WDW - lol :lmao:

oh my that sounds awful Mike! Sorry to hear about all the rain and sickies. I'm glad to hear that it will clear up (the rain) for tomorrow's party. I hope you guys have fun despite the colds.

We made it through and still had lots of fun :cool1:

hmmmm when are you guys coming back? I can't remember. Hope the flight back isn't as eventful as the one over there.

We made it back Saturday evening but have been unpacking and decompressing and such. Post trip tiredness and blues and all that. Just now getting it together ;)

Glad to see you guys made it back okay Mike. I look forward to reading your trip report.

We woke up on Day 1 - Monday, October 12th, at 4am after 1 1/2hrs sleep. We had stayed up late doing all of that last minute stuff that you think you'll have plenty of time to do, but somehow ends up more complicated and time consuming - lol

Here's the Ts that we did up for the trip:

Disney2009-0004.JPG

We made it to airport by 5:30am for 7am flight - check-in was easy with no lines. When we got to the gate we found out the flight had been delayed by 30 minutes due to icing on the wings trying to leave their first hop. I was trying to keep focused but was very tired and was developing a cough.

We took off for LAX around 7:30am with a flight time of just under 2hrs. But about an hour in we had an in-flight medical emergency. A 24 year old guy passed out and was unresponsive. A call went out for medical professionals and a nurse sitting a couple of rows behind us volunteered. She worked with him while we diverted to SAC.

It was a fast decent but the pilots did good. The paramedics were waiting when we landed and took him off pretty quicky, but we still ended up being grounded for about 1 1/2 hours due to the paperwork. We were back in air just before 10am and landed at LAX around 11am.

It was an easy trip to baggage claim and the on to the "green island" to wait for our bus. Of course Bean managed to find an animal friend
Disney2009-0005.JPG

We had to wear DW and my pirate hats on the flight since they couldn't keep their shape if we tried to pack them. And I can tell you we got some looks here and there. Here's a shot of Pumpkin Girl giving me a "look" of her own while wearing Roxy's
Disney2009-0006.JPG

It was only a 20 min wait for ME bus and the fam kept busy with a spirited game of "patty-cake" - lol
Disney2009-0007.JPG

And then came our magical chariot!
Disney2009-0008.JPG

Disney2009-0009.JPG

Bean wanted to sit up front behind the driver, so I sat up there too. He was a nice guy and we had a good conversation. Unfortunately my throat was starting to get worse. But I perked up when my eye caught this!

And then were were on the grounds:

We made a quick stop at the Grand Californian:

On to check-in with no line at all - whoohoo!
Disney2009-0023.JPG

We were given a free upgrade to a premium pool/park view in Wonder tower - Double WhooHoo!!!!!!

I think I'm at the pic limit, so I'll jump right back in to continue Day 1 ;-]

Welcome Home!!!

Can't wait to hear all about it!!!!:surfweb:

Very nice! With some differences, your arrival was very much like ours. Except I only wished we'd stopped at GCH first; we went to DLH, they did the ticket/money taking there, then we moved over to GCH. Strange little differences....

Loving the pix you took along the way...wishing I'd taken some of those...

Yay, You have started

How scary that must have been on the flight

Glad there was a nurse on board :goodvibes

Love Disneyland bus

Inside of hotel looks great

WOO HOO For upgrade :woohoo:

edited to ad...I Love your shirts

Here was the view from our room:
Disney2009-0025.JPG

and a little panorama:

If you want to see a bigger panorama click here:

We drank the view in and then dumped stuff and headed out for lunch at Rainforest Cafe. On the way Bean stopped in to the phone booth

Then a tree ate Kris
Disney2009-0030.JPG

Bean and Kris wanted to drive the boats but we were hungry and called them away
Disney2009-0031.JPG

Off to DTD and Rainforest!

The snake attacked Kris (sensing a theme here?)

We sat down and look - a shot of Roxy and I :D

We had a great lunch. Kris had salmon, I had Rasta Pasta, Roxy had quesadillas, Gillian had chicken tenders, and Kyra had clam chowder and a kids pasta.

Here's some pics from on the way out of Rainforest

Disney2009-0045.JPG

When we left Kyra was asked to be a demo subject for a color profile at the sketch booth. The artist did a great job and Kyra bought for $10 (usually over twice that).

Disney2009-0046.JPG

While we were waiting Bean got caught up in a musical groove
Disney2009-0047.JPG

We walked through stores and stopped into The World of Disney

Disney2009-0048.JPG

While there we picked up our AAA lanyards, we didn't care for the logos, but they were good lanyards. And it did come with a cool Disneyland pin.

From there it was OFF TO DISNEYLAND!!!!

Yeah, it took me some time to get my groove going, but I'm back in the saddle now ;) The flight wasn't too bad - the flight crew handled it well, mucho kudos to them and the nurse.

It was our first Disneyland Express bus :woohoo:

The classic theming of the hotel is wonderful. So many works of art, all centering on Disneyland rides and memorable spots. The room rocked as far as view - 11th floor. Only downside was the fridge's compressor was a bit loud.

Thanks on the shirts. I had made 4 designs and settled on printing out those two. They all turned out great except Kyra's, which got messed up not once, not twice, but three times :headache: Don't feel bad though, she got some great Jack Skellington swag to compensate

Glad to see you guys made it back okay Mike. I look forward to reading your trip report.

Thankyee Michele! TR is a rollin'!

Welcome Home!!!

Can't wait to hear all about it!!!!:surfweb:

Thanks Sharky!

Doesn't that just figure, each of us went to the wrong hotel first, despite both going on the same bus system. I got lucky with the pix since the bus wasn't that full and Bean wanted to sit up front :)

Oh, and I'm catching up on your TR while I get mine together :woohoo:

Nice pics! I can't wait to see more. :thumbsup2 You are so lucky on getting a upgraded room! I am so jealous. I was really hoping that was going to happen for us, but it did not.

How funny that Bean found her furry friend. I am enjoying your trip report and I love the pictures. I had to laugh the gorilla from Rain Forests eyes looked rather frightening.

Yay, we're off to the races! Great start! :thumbsup2

Love the hotel view.... that panoramic! :cloud9: The upgrade was a nice compensation to your delayed flight!

woohoo!! So glad you guys made it home safe and sound and yay for starting your TR already!! Great Start Mike! That's so awesome that you guys got a free upgrade after all you went through with your flight. What a way to make up for the lost time in transit :goodvibes

Wow, two updates!? You're on a roll already! That's awesome that y'all were able to snag that drawing for so much cheaper than they normally charge. Looks like the artist did a good job :thumbsup2 Oh and awesome view from your resort. Looks like a great spot for sure!!

Great report so far!

We arrived at the Disneyland Hotel the same day as you only later that night around 8:15 p.m. (flight delay...sigh). Glad to hear about your room upgrade! We were hoping for one as well but alas it wasn't in the cards for us. We got one of the small rooms (no daybed) with a parking lot view (we paid for a standard room though so I can't complain). We asked the next morning for a room change to a larger room if possible but they couldn't store our fridge items for us (milk for the little one) between the room change so we stayed put.

Can't wait to hear the rest of your report!

Well I was lost but found myself in time to see your trip report with pics!!!! Hooray!!!! :yay: Glad I didn't miss out.

The medical emergency on the plane......scary!! I would have freaked out having to land & take off again....flying is not one of the things I do very well.

Love the pics of entering the Disney complex.....makes you all giddy inside!

Love.....LOVE  the tee shirts!!

Great pics in the RFC.....love to eat there!

Can't wait to see more!!!

Love your view. It is awesome!!

Score on the discounted sketch..looks great :thumbsup2

Nice pics! I can't wait to see more. :thumbsup2 You are so lucky on getting a upgraded room! I am so jealous. I was really hoping that was going to happen for us, but it did not.

Thank you! And it was funny about the upgraded room ...I was going to ask if we could have one and the CM at the counter beat me to the punch. Sorry it didn't happen for you guys.

How funny that Bean found her furry friend. I am enjoying your trip report and I love the pictures. I had to laugh the gorilla from Rain Forests eyes looked rather frightening.

Yeah, she finds animals wherever she goes. Thank you about he pics, you know how I love my shutterbugging - lol I agree about those animatronic apes ...just a bit creepy.

Yay, we're off to the races! Great start! :thumbsup2

Love the hotel view.... that panoramic! :cloud9: The upgrade was a nice compensation to your delayed flight!

Thankyeee!!!! The view was pretty unbeatable - you usually have to choose between pool or park and we lucked into both :yay:

woohoo!! So glad you guys made it home safe and sound and yay for starting your TR already!! Great Start Mike! That's so awesome that you guys got a free upgrade after all you went through with your flight. What a way to make up for the lost time in transit :goodvibes

Yup, off we go! And I wonder if AAA has some sort of system where they know you've had a bad start and queues a call to DL. If that was really the case I'd certainly book through them again ;)

Wow, two updates!? You're on a roll already! That's awesome that y'all were able to snag that drawing for so much cheaper than they normally charge. Looks like the artist did a good job :thumbsup2 Oh and awesome view from your resort. Looks like a great spot for sure!!

Yeah, gotta keep it rollin' ...hehehe. Oh yes, we were very impressed with her abilities and the price. And we were able to leave the drawing there and come back at the end of the evening to pick it up :thumbsup2

Thank you! Really, same day? Coolness :cool1: I think it helped us to get the better room because there were 5 of us staying there - we had to have that day bed ;) Oh yes, very important to keep the little one's milk cold.

more TR coming!

Well I was lost but found myself in time to see your trip report with pics!!!! Hooray!!!! :yay: Glad I didn't miss out.

Hey Laurie! Glad you found us again :) We certainly could have done without that in flight emergency, but all things considered it was okay.

Thank you about the pics - I love having those to look back on, it really gives that feeling of "arriving". And thank you about the Ts, we were really happy with how they came out.

RFC is a must for any trip - it is loud, but loads of fun and quite the visual experience.

We walked on from WoD and caught our fist sight of the gates!
Disney2009-0049.JPG

I looked up and saw the Steam Train on the platform. This was going to be the only day the train would be running so I told the fam it would be our first ride.
Disney2009-0050.JPG

I had the fam gather under the Disney Character Pumpkins at the Exit gates
Disney2009-0051.JPG

Then Kris took a close-up of us
Disney2009-0051b.JPG

And on we went through the entrance, glancing over one more time at the character pumpkins
Disney2009-0052.JPG

Then it was through the tunnel and on to Main Street USA!
Disney2009-0053.JPG

There was another train there so we headed straight up the stairs and had a seat. I looked over my shoulder and caught a shot of the Orange Monorail Train zipping by beyond the entrance gates
Disney2009-0054.JPG

Then we were on our way down the tracks, sighting the Mardi Gras art
Disney2009-0055.JPG

Then on to New Orleans Square Station
Disney2009-0056.JPG

On we went into Splash Mountain, where I caught a shot of the River Boat scene
Disney2009-0057.JPG

Then past the entrance to Splash Mountain
Disney2009-0058.JPG

Then the shack across the Rivers of America
Disney2009-0059.JPG

Saw the deer and elk and then the Indian Chief
Disney2009-0060.JPG

We pulled into Toontown Station and I snapped a shot of the water tower
Disney2009-0061.JPG

Off we went again and passed IaSW, catching a shot of the topiaries
Disney2009-0062.JPG

On to the dioramas! First the Grand Canyon
Disney2009-0063.JPG

Then the Dinosaurs
Disney2009-0064.JPG

We finished the loop and went on to New Orleans Square, this time getting off. It was early afternoon so all of the lines were pretty long. We decided to brave HM. The theming was fantastic, right from the entrance gate:
