TP app or Genie?

So the countdown begins as we leave for DLR a week from tomorrow with our first day in the park on 3/7. I still don’t understand how to use the TP app or Genie? I have a RD plan in my head for our first day. We’re doing park hoppers for 3 days with Genie + and $LL. Thinking of Rope drop IJ (since it closes the next day) followed by Jungle Cruise, Pirates and then Big Thunder. After that I want to be able to follow one of the apps to let me know which rides we can standby with waits of 15 or less. Which around 9:30 or so may not be much. My thought is to just start using LL on any rides that show a 20 minute or more standby time.
So is the Genie app or TP app going to suggest which rides to go to next? The TP app does not seem very intuitive. Does it know I am park hopping and have Genie plus and will play for $LL? I feel like it doesn’t? What about the Genie app, will it know what I am trying to accomplish? I just feel like these apps are only set up to give a strategy for those not using LL. I don’t want to be using LL too early or too late and I just don’t feel like I know how to properly tell the apps what I want to do. Am I missing something?

We also have a reservation for Savi’s workshop at 12:30pm on 3/7 but that isn’t even showing in the Disney app. Maybe because my wife booked it? I would like to do RoTR and MF before that and not sure how the app can work around that.

You can use the Disneyland app to check wait times and book your Genie+ LL times. But you shouldn't use the Genie portion of the app to attempt to "plan your day". Regardless of what attractions you say you want to visit, it'll recommend random attractions in a nonsensical order and generally be no help whatsoever.

I've never used the TP app at Disneyland so I can't comment on that. But if you know what you want to do, it's easy to manage your day yourself by checking wait times on the Disneyland app. Like you mentions, if you want to see what attractions have a 15 minute or less wait, it's easy to see that in the app.

Why not use both?
What I like about TP is that they give you the estimated time. It is a fact that Disney inflates the wait time. TP tells you what is more likely the wait time and if you can best ride it now, or wait till later in the day.

I guess what I misunderstood when I purchased the TP app is that I thought I could say “hey I will be in DL at rope drop, have park hopper and will have Genie plus and $LL, now just tell me what to ride in sequential order, taking into account real time waits, closures, etc…”. Almost like the Waze app in that it would pivot in real time but I guess that was wishful thinking. Lol

I think TP app will make adjustments. You make your list (or use one for theirs) online since seems easier to do there. Then in the app you choose the list and check off items as you do them. It doesn’t automatically adjust the order unless you ask it to.

I have read before that people don’t find the TP app useful. It is useful in my planning now just to see estimated wait times. I need to estimate break times for my kids with special needs.

You could take one of the standard Plans and follow those, or create a list which rides are important to you and then optimize the plan. I havent really looked into how it will work with Genie+, as my trip is not till a few months. But I do like playing around with the plans and creating a schedule that has acceptable wait times without Genie+.

I do find this easier to do on the website on a desktop computer than in the app.

One thing you will know for sure, the Disney app will not tell you where you want to go, but where Disney wants you to go.
