I have gone to Toys R Us every year on black Friday. This year was totally insane. We got there at 10:00 PM. Stood in the freezing rain for 2 hours. They came around and handed out tickets. We weren't too far back in the line... maybe 120 back.... if that far. When they got to us, there were still a lot of tickets (for the larger door buster items) but nothing that we wanted. When 12:00 hit, people started going towards the doors. Then this giant mob of people came from nowhere. They decided to announce that the people with the tickets could go to the front of the line. People waaaay behind us were trying to get in front...but couldn't because there were so many people. Then they decided to just let everyone in. And when I say Everyone... I mean...EVERYONE :scared1: Once we finally got in there... it was standing room only. You could not move. Every square inch of the floor was taken up by people. I stood in the same spot for an hour and a half...with a few items... I couldn't move! The state fire Marshall came in and said for everyone that did not have an item to leave. No one could move. I stood for another 30 minutes. I decided that I was just going to leave everything that I had .. and leave. I was close to an employee exit door, and left through the back. It was totally insane. I don't know what they did after I left.

The only thing that I can think of... since they opened at midnight, everyone was there...because nothing else in our area was opened.

There were 2 code Adams while we were there.

:-( I also had a horrible experience with walmart...I'm so sorry! Hopefully you got some good things

what's a code adam?

I've heard a lot of people so far complain about how Toys R Us handled Black Friday -

What are code Adams?

So sorry you had to experience this - How frustrating to wait that long only for it to turn into a madhouse.

Code Adam : Child missing. Not surprising as the parents probably couldn't find the kid in that crowd.

Named for Adam Walsh, the son of John Walsh, who was abducted from a Sears store in Florida.

I went to TRU one year and that was it for me. For many years after the fire marshal was outside counting people as they went in and out as there is a limit to any public builiding based on safety.

Target handed out re-use bags to everyone in line, which I thought was nice. Then as we were walking into the store and people were bum rushing the door, they wouldn't let them in without a bag. If you didn't have a bag, then you waited for all those who did to get in. WHAT A GREAT IDEA!!!!! Too abd it was mass chaos in the store when it came time to check out....they had every register open, some lines were wrapping around hte store, and others had 3 ppl on them....other years they had 1 way to enter the line and then would direct you to an open line....not the case this year!

The code adams in our stores... they lock the doors and don't let anyone in or out until the child is found.

Code ADAM at midnight?? Those poor kids should have been in bed. Not only could they have been lost, they could have been trampled!

Kohls was also stupid. I thought the worst would be over by my lunchtime at 1130AM. I found one of the items on my list, but the two lines were meeting at the very back of the store. Nobody seemed to be moving. It could have easily taken two hours to get out of there.

There were three women working one end of the jewelry counter and none of them were doing a thing, but they wouldn't even discuss ringing up my one little item. I just left it there.

They really should make some amends for their website being hosed all night and day.

Our Target was ridiculous! None of the employees knew where anything was if it wasn't the big items. I wanted the digital picture frame, went to electronics and they told me it was up by the pharmacy. I went up there and they told me it was on the infant area on the rug. So I went there to find dvd players. I went back up front and again they told me to go to infants. I found an employee there, who told me to check the back side of infants. I finally found them on an endcap TWO ROWS away from the man I talked to in electronics. Then the line literally wrapped around the entire store. It was insane!

I had a bunch of items that I purchased over a week ago. They were not allowing returns until 1:00 PM so they would not pricematch their own ad. That was a joke. How can they not allow returns!!! I was able to find all but 1 item I needed so I bought them again and I will go back and return my other ones later. I am thinking about disputing the charge with my credit card that will teach them.

Wow, I feel lucky! I visited both Target and Best Buy this morning and they were both well organized. I didn't even have a Target bag and got into the store easily when they opened because there was a line and everyone stayed in it.

Ugh, some of these situations sound awful.

I agree never again!! We got there at 12:15am waited in line for 15 minutes to get in and it was a madhouse. They had 2 lines, one for checkout and one for video games. I never even made it to the video game dept. We waited in line 1 hr 45 min to check out.

That is too bad..The TRU's in NJ in Warren County was excellent!! While the line was very very long, but they were very very organized and the town cops were there to make sure there were no problems, pushing, shoving or cutting in..They allowed a certain # of people at a time to alleviate the movement in the stores. Employees came out to give us tickets for certain products to alleviate the lines in the store. I got in at 12:05, got the 2 itouche's and left the store at 12:30.. They handle it very well..Kudo's to Management!!

This is the first year I didn't go into ToysRus. I thought about how they were opening at midnight then more door busters at 5 - just sounded like a mess before I got there. So I missed out on some deals- but sounds like I didn't miss much.

All my shopping experiences this AM were good.

I decided not to go out so early in the AM today. I had already bought everything off my children's Christmas list before BF. I got my nephews and nieces their stuff from Toys r us online this morning. There was no way that i was going to wait when i could get the same stuff in the BF ad on line. I also was able to grab a few doorbuster items from walmart online. It was great to do my shopping fromthe comfort of my own home and not have to fight the crazy crowds. There is no way that i would spend that much time in line. I would have to save a few thousand dollars for me to stand in line for that long.
I decided to venture out in the afternoon and i was able to get some of the same things on their list for the sale price. I bought them and will just go back tomorrow morning when the store opens to make the return. I went to Old Navy for their $5.00 t-shirts and I did not wait in line. I did hear that they did well in the Am, but the sales person said that there were 2 fist fights this morning inthe store. You know the world is crazy when people are fighting about Old Navy clothing.
I was glad to hear that my friends made out well with their shopping this morning.
I am also glad that me and my girls didnt go out at Midnight. I was going to take them on their first BF experience to Toys r us this morning, but after hearing all this, i think maybe we won't be doing it next year either.

a coworker's wife went to TRU.. and she didn't get in until 2:30am!!!! the line was that long.. I saw the line at midnight and left.

I just took my TRU ad to Walmart and price matched for the few things I wanted (at midnight) - no issues, and we were home in bed by 12:15am.

Code ADAM at midnight?? Those poor kids should have been in bed. Not only could they have been lost, they could have been trampled!

LoL, I was thinking they same thing, what were kids doing out at midnight waiting in line at TRU?
