Toys in your house where are they?

do your kids have a play/toy room? or do they keep their toys in their room?

each has some in their rooms. There are some in the family room, and some in the basement.

Mainly the toys are in their rooms. We do have a play/game room that is about to become a guest room because they don't use it.

DD(10) is at the point where she wants to do her own thing up in her room.

DS(7) still has his legos, the toy that he plays with everyday, still in my living room.

When they were younger the majority of their toys were in my living room, I think younger kids want to be around mom/dad and not up in their room.

Yep. My DD6 has all her toys in her room, but her dollhouse is in the den. I also bought her very own nice, cherry wood card table and put a wicker basket underneath that is also in our den for her to play with her toys on. My den & kitchen are one huge area and is where I pretty much always am and she likes to me, which is fine by me. Occassionally she will play upstairs in her room alone (esp. when she has that karoke machine going). I got the table for her because otherwise, all of her polly pockets, princess dolls and little pet shops ended up all over my kitchen table, counters and end tables . This way, she has her own little corner to set up in and play or color. She still tends to spread out, but we just pick it all up in the evening .

Now that she is older she doesn't have that many "toys" - they used to be in the living room, her bedroom/playroom (her bedroom is big enough for both), downstairs in the finished basement/rec room, her doll house is set up in the library room and some were stored upstairs in the 2 spare bedrooms, we would rotate the toys so every once in awhile we would take some up there and bring others down since we don't use those bedrooms for anything at all.

I have had homes with playrooms, lofts, basements with toys.

Now my girls are older (13 & 18) and while most of the toys are in totes in the basement everything else is in their rooms! They are girls so of course they have stuffed animals and figures.

I am all for bigger bedrooms.

Our last house had a basement so the vast majority were downstairs. However our new home doesn't ahve one so there are toys in their bedroom as well as in the living room. I really wish that every home came with a basement.

Up until they were 5 or so, they had some in the living room and some in their rooms.

At that point, all the toys got moved to their rooms. Of course, they still bring things out to the living room to play, but they get put back in their rooms when they are finished playing.

We have toys in our family room for the grandkids to play with. Most of them are kept in a large clear sterilite storage box, but there are a few others (container of Legos, books, etc.) stacked beside the box in one corner.

But. I am in the process of cleaning the upstairs and we're going to make the bedroom at the top of the stairs a toy/kid room. The toys will then go up there, along with the big rocking horse and child-size kitchen from when our kids were little, a couple of children's rocking chairs, etc.

I want to buy a children's table/chairs set and maybe a wall unit with bins to keep books, coloring books/crayons, etc. in.

Also want to put a TV up there, and DVD player for watching kid movies. And maybe a couple bean bag chairs.

We have two 4-year-old grandsons so the room will be perfect for them. It will be awhile before the 10-month-old granddaughter will be able to go up there, but the way time flies it won't be long, ha ha!!

And if we'd get a video game system, even the older two grandchildren (13 and 16) might want to go up there as well.

It will be nice to have the "noise" up there. That way the adults can visit, or watch a movie, while the kids are upstairs playing.

They are everywhere.. I'm tripping on them all the time We try to keep toys to a minimum in the bedrooms to keep them from playing when they should be sleeping. The attic/playroom has most of the overflow right now. They go up there to play a lot. I am trying to figure out where in the world we are going to put all the new stuff from christmas... The sucky part is all of the "out grown" toys get taken over by the younger kids so I can't really put any of the "baby" toys away...

It is an even split between the living room and dds room. She prefers to play in the living room - which is fine with me because she is very good about picking up after she is done playing.

Right now we have a formal living room that we don't have furniture for. I have decided to make it the playroom period ... eventually when we have the $$ we will get kid friendly furniture for it. It's near the kitchen and the dinning room so it will be good to use when the baby gets here ... DS's toys are mostly in there but he will pull out a few toys at a time and bring them down to the family room. Once the family room gets painted and finished decorating I am going to get a table for him to put up in one corner with some nice baskets for him to have some toys put away in here too. It's a very large room with a sun-room area at the back that will be perfect for his toys.

He doesn't have much in his room right now but that's because we are still unpacking. I will put some stuff up there because he does like to go up there and play sometimes ... he is still a baby (2.5) so he doesn't go away from my side for very long these days! The living room/playroom will be perfect to baby gate off with the new baby.

In theory the toys are in the playroom, but my living room has become overrun with toys. The playroom is right off the kitchen, but for some reason my kids feel the need to take toys from there and bring them into the living room. I could see if we had a large house and they didn't want to be far away, but it's small so the playroom is probably only 30 feet from the living room!

We also have some toys in their old bedroom upstairs (they share a room, and right now that is the smallest room, so their old, larger room now has an art table and toy box, along with our computer/desk, etc.), but keep it to books and stuffed animals only in their bedroom. They would definitely get up and play if there were toys in their room so that's the reason for keeping them out.
