Toy Story Land Summer 2018

There are Toy Story lands in Hong Kong, Paris, and they are building one in Shanghai. The one in Florida is the best of the 4 as he other ones have very small kiddy rides while Florida is getting a coaster

The RC Racer that is in Hong Kong and Paris is pretty intense with a height restriction and stuff and is a pretty run ride

Got me curious and just went and looked at POV video ................. this is exactly my fear about ToyStoryLand .... Six Flags rides ....

As the construction of Animal Kingdom progressed they ran into some major buget problems and they had the choice of either Dinoland and beastly Kingdom. They chose Dinoland and replaced the area set aside for beastly Kingdom with camp Minnie Mickey and then ran into more budget problems with Dinoland. They sank most of that money into the development of Dinosaur that they just created the carnival like atmosphere with the remaining funds just to have something there. That is probably the worst themed area in all of Disney parks other than probably Walt Disney Studios Park in Paris. I see no comparison between this and Toy Story Land as it is going to be immersive with an IP tie in and not have a carnival like atmosphere. They already have Toy Story Mania arguably the most popular ride in the park, a tame spinner Alien ride that will be popular among kids in the park and something Studios with a lot of rides with big height restrictions needs, and a roller coaster that will be fairly tame but from the looks of it being open air will give kids more of a thrill than 7DMT. I'm excited that yes it is geared more toward kids but it will be a popular well themed area that is much needed as they look to turn around Hollywood Studios (need that new name soon)

Part of the reason they chose Dinoland instead of Beastly Kingdom was because they had the movie Dinosaur coming out and they wanted to cross promote and thought the movie would drive up interest in the land, etc.

Also, Dinoland has a really fun back-story. Here is the short version:

"DinoLand U.S.A. originally started as a small highway town where an amateur fossil-hunter found some dinosaur bones in 1947. After containing some scientist friends, they gathered their money together to purchase the site. Since then, scientists, volunteers and grad students have been living there trying to find answers about dinosaurs. The Dino Institute was founded and opened the site as a "fossil discover park". An old fishing lodge of the property became the Restaurantosaurus. Meanwhile, the Dino Institute discovered how to warp vehicles through time, and thus started doing time tours.

Chester and Hester, two locals, were determined to make a quick buck and converted their gas station into a fossil souvenir shop. Not to be out done by the Dino Institute, they created their own version of DINOSAUR named Primeval Whirl. They also added TriceraTop Spin and the midway games."

I actually love the themeing but get why others don't - but there is a lot of detail in there. Like I love this sign that was created as a gas sign, but then painted over for the souvenir store to fit the theme of this being a converted area - but everything is brand new

(but obviously way off topic for this thread)

I guess there are several things that make this a tough sell for some Disney fans

1) The best ride "in" Toy Story Land isn't often mentioned in these updates and is rarely pictured -- the currently existing TSMM
2) Slinky is a minor coaster with a cute theme (Barnstormer).
3) The alien saucers are a dressed-up spinner that, minus the theme, you find at any carnival
4) The toy theme, while wholly appropriate, looks a little cheap (trying real hard not to summon images of DinoLand U.S.A.)
5) It badly needs one more ride or show because the "land" looks sooooo small!

I have kids in/near their teen years, so at first glance this amounts to the addition of a cute little coaster and a throwaway in a nicely themed garden behind a ride we already visit.

2) it is not a mini coaster - it has two launches (linear induction) and is much longer. I think it will be closer to 7DMT than Barnstormer. So a true family coaster, not mini
3) the alien saucers are a rethemed version of Mater's Junkyard Jambore - so not exactly the spinners you find at any carnival

I do think one or two more smaller rides would be good - I assume there will be some meet and greets and playarea type things.

Part of the issue I think is the Toy Story Lands at Hong Kong and Paris both have 2 very tall rides - the RC Coaster and the Army Man Parachute drop - but you can't have that here without ruining the immersion of Sta Wars: Galaxy's Edge - so they couldn't just port over existing rides.

Toy Story Land has 3 rides, if you count Midway Mania. I know I know... "But Dfan they already had that". It still counts though.

I know it looks cheap in comparison to the Star Wars section. But every ride doesn't have to be poop your pants good. The rugrats do need something in DHS and this delivers in spades.

Plus overall the theming is pretty, pretty cool.
