what r the household items i nd to buy at publix..
cant bring much onto plane...so...

We stay at timeshares every year and fly down. Here are some of the essentials on our "bring" list, but they are driven somewhat by what is provided:

  • Purex Laundry/Dryer sheets. We only use them for travel, but they are a great alternative to packing or buying powder.
  • Ziploc bags - for leftovers, packing park lunches etc. Bring a bunch, they weigh nothing!
  • Coffee filters. The smallest quantity at the Publix was 200. We brought them home and now bring them back 10 at a time...
  • J-Cloths for dishes - again lightweight and clean. You don't want to use a sponge that's there if provided. Ick!
  • Camper set of salt & pepper (but that's 'cause our resort only provides the little packets).
  • Dishwasher pucks if you have a DW. They never provide enough for a week.
  • Small pack of clorox wipes for an initial surface clean.
  • Swiss Army Knife or Leatherman - including corkscrew if you enjoy a glass of wine... (not sure why this seems to be the most often missing item from the kitchen - do people really like cheapo openers that much?)
  • Matches or lighter if there is a charcoal BBQ
  • A BBQ flipper. That is still the biggest oversight at our resort; they have BBQ's but no utensils for flipping your burgers or steaks!
Admittedly some of these items sound weird but it works for us! A lot of these items should not be packed in carryons. Checked luggage only!

I'll chime in with a few more things that may or may not be in your rental: chip clips (or just clothespins), little baggies and twist ties (for leftovers) your own coffee in a ziplock bag, Shout wipes for laundry use, and a bunch of garbage bags for the kitchen. There is no recycling, so we made a lot of trash, and the bags are easy to pack and weigh nothing. Hope this helps!:)

I have a kit that I bring down with me on the auto train. Things I have learned that are useful. Napkins, sugar packets for coffee, creamer, dish detergent.

I can't think of everything right now but paper products are a big thing.

I think you need to look at your rental listing. I just read one that said you'll need to provide almost everything -- detergents, soap, even toilet paper. Others provide everything you need. Maybe email the owners of your condo. They may have a shopping list ready to go.

Good idea to check with the owners first before schlepping all kinds of stuff down there. We stayed at RTM in May (Romancing the Mouse) and they were pretty well stocked with the things we needed. That, however, was the first rental (out of 9) since 1999 that supplied laundry detergent, Bounce sheets, etc. You will need toilet paper---there were 7 of us:rotfl2:

Toilet paper and paper towels were biggies for us. There was lots of liquid dish soap others had left behind so that might be something to check for before you go shopping. We also use the Purex laundry sheets when we travel and would pack those in the case. Although our last rental had lots of trash bags in the kitchen, I had brought some from home that stayed in the can better than the cheap ones supplied.
