Good day,

Will be travelling from SNA (John Wayne Airport) to Best Western at Disneyland and did not want to bring the car seat for fear of damage from airline. I have found only two town car services that provide car seats: Anaheim Town Car Services operated by Jag Transportation and Affordable Town Car Services by Sunny. Did find one limo company, but cost was apprx $75/trip.

Any recommendations on who to use or your experinces? Pricing is close, apprx $45 to $55 each wayy?

I had called Sunny and the price he advised was slightly different from what is posted on his website, he said it was because of the cost of gas, but when a price is advertised on their webside...... Anyway, he did agree in the end (after I said I'd call around) to honor the prices on his website plus the discount he advertises on his webside for round trip (and would put it in his email confirmation once booked) but that made me want to check some more reviews if possible.

Thanks in advance!

How about renting carseats from Citystollerrentals? We just returned from DLR/DCA on Sunday and we rented two carseats and one double stroller from Citystrollerrentals. We flew into SNA and picked up carseats outside of the baggage claim upon arrival. It worked out sooooooo perfectly. Carseats were clean and in great condition. I would highly recommend Citystrollerrentals.

The problem with using any car seats other than your own is it is impossible to know the history and condition of the seat. Is it less than 5 years old? Has it ever been in even a minor accident? Etc.

Exactly! I'd rather bring mine on the plane then use an unknown seat. If your seat is a 5 point harness your kiddo can sit in it on the plane (there should be a sticker than says FAA approved)... if they have outgrown the harness and are just in a bum booster, you can carry those on ans store them over head! :thumbsup2

Yes, please reconsider using a car seat that you don't know the history of. We always install our kids' seats on the plane so we can have them at our destination, it's a major hassle, but I really do see it as a serious safety issue.

I would assume that if the car seats had been in an accident that the towncar company would not use them. You may or may not be able to check to see if they are out of date, but I would hope that they would not be (it's an easy thing for them to know and would be a liability issue to them). Honestly, the biggest "mistreatment" problem that I would suspect in a car seat from a company such as this would be washing the straps. Many people do not know that this is a safety hazard and I could see them washing them if they looked dirty.

I believe the Disneyland Resort Express buses don't require (or allow) car seats, though I can't say that is necessarily a safer option...

I find many people (and probably just about every one with no children or children older than car seat laws) don't know that car seats expire or need to be replaced after an accident, even a small one and even if unoccupied. I've met police officers and insurance adjusters who didn't know these things.

And a bus is a safer option :goodvibes: statistically speaking buses are safer than passenger cars even for small children.

Sorry, car seat safety is my pet project and very close to my heart, so sometimes I get a little wacky over it, lol.

Yellow school busses are safer because they are designed to compartmentalize. The large coach busses are not designed for small children and won't protect them in an accident.

How old are your children? If you have bought them a seat on the plane, I would suggest bringing their seats on the plane and then you don't have to worry about them being damaged.

If you are wacky, then I am too. Married to a cop and I worked for the state department of public. It's one of my issues too.

Motorcoaches are still safer than passenger cars. According to the NHTSA they're actually the safest form of highway transportation.
The tour bus/coaches I've ridden on also provide compartmentalization, but I'm not familiar with the options at DLR and they may not.

In response to the query, my son will be 2-1/2 when we travel.

He will be miserable if he has to be strapped into his car seat on the plane - he's a mover and is very active in the plane in the past.

After a long flight, we did not want to wait around for the coach that apparently is only there once an hour, and no specified time when I emailed them to inquire.

Sounds like nobody thinks using the car service is a good idea....

You can still install your seat on the plane. He will only need to be harnessed at take off and landing. A car service would work this way.

The Disneyland Resort Express comes every 30 minutes and we rarely have to wait very long for one.

Yep! And the one time we had a persnickety FA we just buckled the crotch buckle and left his arms out of the upper straps.

Good thinking! :) One time, when my daughter was two, she did not want to be harnessed for landing and had a full on melt down on the plane. It was terrible. But I got her buckled in and as soon as she heard the snap, she stopped. lol. She knew there was no getting out of it.

We always brought our seats on the plane when the kids were little. Now, we carry on their backless boosters. I recently bought the Bubble Bum inflatable booster. What a great invention!

In my experience, little kids do better in their own car seats on the plane... they know they have to stay in them and not run around the plane just like they have to in a car. ;)

That is my experience as well. I have very active children but the car seat means you have to sit and they know it. And your child will be safer too.

When I checked out the website for Disney Express, they only run until 8 p.m. from SNA, our flight comes in at 9, so that isn't going to work. I hubby said he is really not interested in carrying the carseat around (not a direct flight) nor wanting to deal with the sitting restriction of a carseat on the plane.
We had previously bought the CARES restraint, and he had a meltdown on the plane u til we got him out of it (had a free seat between us, but he did not go for it). Really making me question the safety of the car seat with the town car.....

Buy a cosco scenera, or other inexpensive seat, leave it in the manufacturers packaging (made to handle shipping) and check it. No taking the seat on the plane, no hauling it through an airport to make your next flight and you have a seat you know is acceptable for use at your destination.

Yes, dragging a large car seat through airports isnt easy. In fact, it's a huge, giant PITA. But it's a safety issue. Your child is safer on the plane in his/her own car seat vs a regular plane seat. Your child is also safer in his/her own car seat (provided it hasn't been in an accident or isn't expired) in a taxi/car service vs a rented seat about which you know nothing.

For us, the giant hassle of traveling with DD's car seat is worth her safety.
