I could be completely losing my mind, but did the rules for TOWL change? I thought I remember reading that it was no longer limited to members staying at BLT on points, but open to all members. Is that true or am I totally making that up.

Could have been a dream :rolleyes1

We were just there two weeks ago and they made sure we were staying in the hotel and were not allowing anyone else up unless you were guests of BLT :confused3.

So can I just clarify

If I'm staying at BLT on an RCI exchange I won't be allowed in :sad2:

Thanks in advance :thumbsup2

Wow, I was worried there for a second. I thought the subject was Tables in Wonderland until I realized the "o" in TOWL didn't fit in. I have plans on buying a TiW card soon. Blood pressure returning to normal...

That is correct. It is for DVC members staying at BLT. They require the blue membership card to be presented.

It's for DVC members and their guests. And since DVC extends the "guest" designation to anyone staying on points--including renters--its a very open policy.

Here is the exact perk language:

Due to anticipated high demand for this location, access is available only to Disney Vacation Club Members who are staying at Bay Lake Tower using their Membership (Vacation Points or cash), guests staying in the room with that Member, and guests who are staying in a room reserved by a DVC Member with Vacation Points. Access is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis.

They really should not be asking for the blue member ID because "guests who are staying in a room reserved by a DVC Member with Vacation Points" are eligible but could not provide such identification.

However I do agree that an RCI exchanger is not eligible.

Tim...thank you for the clarification. I guess since they have always asked for our cards I just assumed....

...and you know where that gets you! :scared1:

So, the real bottom line is, as usual....it depends on who the CM is staffing the position at that time. :confused3

that is so true.

one lady does not even ask for resort ID - she just takes you to the elevators - the other 3 want the resort ID and just one wants the blue card - ran across her on my last trip....did not believe in her before then....:rotfl:

she was turning people away. the others never have in my present (which is generally all of 5 minutes per day)

However, DVC is very clear about the difference between a guest and a renter in the Public Offering Statement. A guest does not compensate the member. A renter compensates the member. Guests may be entitled to some DVC perks and benefits, but renters are not.

And renters should be listed on the reservation "if" the member does what they are suppose to do and notify MS when they book the reservation.

But of course we know some members pick and choose their compliance to rules.

In all honesty, as a BLT owner, this is one policy that annoys me. Especially when I read reports about it not covering it's operation costs. As an owner there, I want it to be open when I stay there. If they reduce the hours open, or increase my dues because they are turning business away....well that is just stupid IMHO. I understand the "exclusivity" of it. I enjoyed it last time I was there, but if it is empty half the time, the policy needs to change.

I've seen the arguments of what do you do at fireworks time, and blah blah. YES, you kick non members out if it is packed at that time. But to have it empty all other times is counter productive.

I understand your frustration. I am wondering though, how do you think they would go about kicking non BLT owners (or renters) out as fireworks time approaches? To me that seems like it could be problematic. I guess it comes down to the question of which would make you happier...an open to all and profitable TOTWL that you, as a BLT owner might not be able to get a seat at, or a TOTWL that always has availability?

I expect the policy to change after BLT sells out.

:earsboy: Bill

Interesting. When they no longer need it as a sales tool, they can modify the rules. That falls perfectly in line with the ideal that the only thing that is guaranteed when you purchase a DVC contract is the right to stay at your home resort. All other perks are non guaranteed and can be modified or removed at any time. Such as exclusive access to the Top of the World Lounge for BLT owners. Clever.

got told by the Cm that restuarants, quick service or anything that serves food does not belong to DVC - but Disney.

disney runs all the food stuff and DVC is not charged for it. so we aren't.

disney kepts the profits - okay for TOWL there is none.

now not sure if this includes the gift shops - but would say it does???

now I do love the TOWL - it is really nice. So always try to have a drinik up there every trip I am at BLT.
