Towing from WNY

Our trip to FW was the farthest we have ever driven with towing our trailer. We left around 10:00am on Friday. We drove into Wytheville, VA and slept at a KOA there. We got in too late for the kids to swim, but it looked like a nice place. Saturday we drove into Kingsland, SC right on the FL border. Again, stayed at a nice KOA. The next day we drove the rest of the way into WDW, arrived aroun 2:00 because we stopped at Walmart on our way. The only problem we had was a 2 1/2 hour delay in Georgia due to an accident. DH drove 65mph the whole way. He said the mountains weren't bad, he had expected them to be worse, although he said no way would he want to do them at night while pulling the camper.

Our drive home was good too. We left WDW on Friday around 11:00 (much later than I had wanted to leave). Again, traffic jam in Georgia, but only 1 hour this time. Sadly it looked like a truck towing a camper had caught on fire. Camper looked ok, but the truck was destroyed. I cannot remember where we stayed on the way back, but it was another KOA.

All in all, not a bad drive at all. Would do it again, for sure. Our gas cost us less than 4 round-trip air line tickets would have cost, so I am very happy with that!

Just curious...about how many miles per day was that? Did you have reservations at the KOA's ahead of time or did you just pull in? We are beginning to plan our trip to FW from Indiana (South Bend right at the Indiana Michigan state line) and I was planning on trying to drive it in 2 days. We drove straight thru 7 years ago without the camper and switched off drivers and if I remember correct, it was around 22 to 23 hours. I would like to drive 8 to 10 hours per day.

I don't know the number of miles each day, but our trip was 1200 one way. So, I will guess we did around 500 each of the first two days, and then had about 200 the third day. We planned out where we were going to stop and had made reservation before we left home. The one campground's office closed at 7:00, but they had left our site info on the door so we could check-in any time. If you go to the KOA site, there is a way to enter your home and destinantion and then it lists all the KOA's along the way. This is how we figured out where to stay.

BUT, DSis lives 30 miles from WDW and brings her RV several times a year so even if I don't stay with her (which I will do in December) we hang out a lot at FW. Great place to be!

BUT, DSis lives 30 miles from WDW and brings her RV several times a year so even if I don't stay with her (which I will do in December) we hang out a lot at FW. Great place to be!

When we lived in Northwestern PA, we were looking for some land and had the opportunity to buy next to the guy who designed the Moosehead beer label (saw your avitar). He was building a "cabin" on it to the tune of over 60,000 bucks in 1984 dollars. We never bought the land, but I wonder how he would have felt looking out of his window in the morning to see FWGuy in his underwear sipping coffee by the 1978 Coleman we had then.

We drive our motorhome 800 miles one way to Fort Wilderness many times a year. I would do it monthly if I could afford to go that often.

In central Indiana we drive 1,025 miles. We leave after school, stop for a few hours rest and get into FW about 3:00 pm. We pull a 20 foot camper.
About 20 hours on the road.
