tower of terror

Do you ever fall all the way down? Or do you usually fall a little, then go up and back down and maybe up again. :
It's kind of hard to say actually because it changes each ride. Also, you can't see as you're falling so you don't really know how far you've gone down. But when I went on the first time it felt as if we went all the way down, and then all the way back up. It's really not that bad. The anticipation is the worst of it all. Give it a try.

eylo all! okay so, im going back to disney next month and i agreed to TRY to tower of terror, since i chickened out last month. but the one thing that scares me most is not knowing what to expect lol i know it drops but one of the cms before the line said it doesnt *always* go to the very top? but that its random how high it goes? is that true?

and my friend said it not only drops you fast but it like shoots you up the elevator fast which i didnt know.. does it really do that?

i just dont want any suprises or im going to be freaking out haha :guilty:

I am trying to work up the nerve too. Here is what DS told me. "Remember in Ga. and we rode that elevator that went waaaayyyy up and went really fast? It is kinda like that, only more open." He could be fibbing (He is 17 after all, and the same kid that told me "Splash Mountain" was not that bad. :goodvibes Then I got on it and cried like a baby lol.

I say try it, how often do you get to go to Disney World? Plus, you may regret not trying it. I did last time, so this time I am going to go for it. Good luck!

One weird question. Can you leave your glasses on???? I always take glasses off for roller coasters but was curious about ToT. Mine are prescription and I can't really see well without (if there is much to see!) but not a big deal if I have to take them off! Give me your opinions -- thanks! :teeth:
I've never taken my glasses off on any attraction. I'm extremely nearsighted and figure if I can't see the theming, what's the point of the ride?
If you're concerned about losing them, go to the drugstore and, in the eyecare section, get one of those adjustable elastic straps. I've used them in the past, but recently I keep forgetting to buy any (and can never remember what I did with the old one :)) and have had NO trouble on Space Mountain, Big Thunder Mountain, Rock 'N' Roller Coaster, Tower of Terror, etc. I think it's because the optician adjusts the glasses to fit you in the first place - unlike non-prescription sunglasses which are one size fits most.

DH and I rode on Friday and it didn't drop you first, it pulled you up. It must not have gone all the way to the top at the start. This was different from when we were there just 3 months ago. Always exciting!!

Yes i agree with the others ,You can do it! :thumbsup2 From one chicken
Disney fan to another. I would always pass on the ride until last summer
i finally went on ToT. Its alot of fun and it must be tried atleast once.

I'm afraid of heights, afraid of falling and absolutely love riding ToT!! Our first trip I chickened out three times while my teens rode and really regretted doing so after I got home. I've made up for it every trip since.

I was a little nervous the first time, but determined! Now every time I get in the elevator I'm saying, "What was I thinking?!??" And then have the best time!

I also wear glasses and always keep them on - even on RnRC. I think the outside part of Test Track was the only time I ever felt like they were going to fly off my face.

If you can at all possibly do it, at least try it once. You either won't have to wonder anymore and never ride it again or you will riding every chance you get.

Just remember.... whats the ABSOLUTE worst thing that could happen? You are scared for a minute or two and then its over? Three year olds go on this ride all the time.

Well..um..no. The ABSOLUTE worst thing that could happen is that the brakes could fail and you'd crash to the bottom of the ride! That's what I worry about! We've all heard about rides breaking down. Well, what happens if ToT breaks down in the middle of a drop??!!

Does anyone know how this ride works mechanically? Does the elevator sit on a platform or is it completely suspended in the shaft with nothing directly below it?

It's on a platform. You can feel it when the seating area moves onto the platform

I thought that the feeling was when the seating area moved into the drop shaft. There really is something below it?
Of course, I guess that the platform could fail too.

Hmm..Yup..I'm an official ToT chicken! :rotfl2:

caution:
do NOT keep anything in your top pocket etc that you might want later on(vbg) (or anywhere LOOSE sitting next to you)

my husband kept his cigarettes in his t-shirt pocket ,, & IN those cigarettes he stuck our passes & fast passes for the next ride ( since he was tired of getting them out of his wallet , he just stuck them in the celephane part)..

wellllllllllllll,, on one drop of TOT the cigarettes & lighter took off out of his pocket,, the lighter landed on the floor.. but cigarettes & tickets went OUT the window...... & staff said they were gone forever... ( we were in the front row,, maybe if we sat further back this wouldn't have happened)

luckily, it was the last day for use on those tickets , but we might have been out of luck if we wanted more fast passes that day... I did have to get our disney rewards card redone though, since that was also in there..

I agree with everyone else. You need to try it at least once. I promise.... I am a huge chicken but I will ride everything at Disney. I will admit though TOT scares the dickens out of me. My 19 year old son LOVES it so I ride it with him, but I refuse to ride in the front row.

He always loves to look at the pictures afterwards. I'm screaming like the devil, hanging on to him and there's always a child sitting next to me just as calm as can be like nothing is happening. Oh well... that's half the fun..

Give it a shot, then you can join us and try to talk others into riding it. it. :thumbsup2

it's only happened twice!

there's been a few minor problems with ToT early on, but overall...it's the best ride Disney has ever created IMO. Everything about the ride is perfect, theming, feeling, thrills, overall experience it's just a great ride.

The first time I ever went on ToT, I was almost shaking, I was so scared. The theming definitely gets you nervous, since it is so detailed. But don't worry. Relax and enjoy it. It's really is a fun ride. Once you ride it once, then you'll be fine. I now can't go past ToT without going on it! :woohoo:

Here's a tip:
-Try and get a seat on the sides. They have little handle bars that you can hold onto. If you don't get one of those seats, then hold onto your seat, I've seen lots of people doing this. It helps get through the ride if you're holding onto something solid.

Have fun! It really isn't that bad!!

My DW said she will try for the first time.

Bwalk! Bwalk! :scared: Here's another chicken weighing in... I LOVE ToT!!! The pre-drop "show" is so well done it makes the whole thing worth it! And the ride is so smoooooooooooooth and not herky jerky like you'd think. I agree with hanging on to the bars. We sat in the back row right in the middle...a highly recommended position. Try it...come on...you'll like it!
