Tower of Terror: Questions, Comments, and Opinions

I absolutely HATE the Tower of Terror. Went on it twice at disneyland and once at WDW and hated it all three times.

My husband, on the other hand, loves it.

the dropping is just not really that scarey. You think it will be, but it's not. The whole ride is great, one of Disney's best I think. My only complaint is I wish there were several more drops. it ends too soon.

For the most fun, keep your seatbelt as loose as possible and keep your hands up the WHOLE time. If you can keep your belt loose enough so that your butt leaves the seat on the drop, that is the best! Very neat feeling.

To all the chickens: just do it. You'll see how you are worrying about nothing. Anyone who is too scared to ride a DISNEY ride should have their head examined. My son rode this several times per trip starting at about age 6. come on you grown ups, grow up! ;)

Wow, that was kind of rude. But whatever....I'm not sensitive enough to really care...haha.
I love just about every Disney ride but the Tower of Terror is far from fun for me. Ugh. Hate it hate it hate it! (Expedition Everest is the best Disney attraction ever created...so far.)

My DH and DS7 rode this (DS7's first time) last October, and DS loved it! I can tell how much fun he had by how loud and how fast he talks when he gets off a ride, and in this one he was VERY LOUD and was talkingalmosttoofasttounderstand! :lmao:

DS wanted me to take him on the ride next, but DH thought it might be too scary for me, so I chickened out.

Disneegrl4eva talked me into going on it with her last month. I was really nervous about it (I mean seriously scared!) but she said it wasn't spooky scary, just thrilling scary. So I went.

All I can say is that it was awesome, and I wanted to go on it again! WOOHOO!!! :woohoo:

I would say if you can do Indiana Jones, you can certainly do this one. :thumbsup2

I LOVE Indiana Jones and HATE the Tower of Terror so that statement isn't true for everyone.

Am I happy that I've tried the tower of terror? Yes. I even went on it a second time to see if I'd like it. Nope. I tried it at WDW thinking maybe I'll like it there...nope.

I love ToT but cannot go on it back to back. Messes with my head! LOL I took my almost 4 year old on it last April and she was terrified but not by the dropping-by the loud voice that talks to you!! Go figure!! The very first time I ever went on it, I had a friend on one side and a stranger (a big macho burly looking man) on the other side. Well, the ride drops and me and stranger grab each other for dear life and scream the whole way up and down. Was sooooo funny!!! I love the ride, I think the themeing is just wonderful but seriously, messes with my equilibrium or something. Ice cream always helps afterwards.

I always go on this with my brother-in-law and we both don't like it? Go figure. All the way we are walking to it we are always asking ourselves out loud "Why are we doing this again?" and laughing, but we go on it anyway and just laugh about it.It is a weird addiction that we have to do at least once every time we are there.

And yes it is much different than the free fall rides because they yank you up and DOWN!The whole themeing (sp?) is perfect, I don't think any other ride is themed as well as this in all of Disnyeland IMO.

This is my most very favorite ride ever... aside from POTC & HM. It is seriously sooooo much fun. Ever since I heard about it when they first built it at WDW I wanted to ride it and finally a few years ago we went to DCA and I dragged my husband on it. He didnt like it because he doesnt like the dropping feeling, but I loved it. I dont really care for that other dropping ride they have, but this one is the best. I took my mom on it a couple years ago and she loved it too. When I go on it I scream and laugh so hard... its a blast! I cant wait to ride it again!!!
I say go and try it once. You really have to try it just once...

Tell us what you don't like about the tower of terror. Just curious.

I copied this from another thread I posted in......

I HATE HATE HATE this ride. I've been on it twice at DCA and once at MGM at Disneyworld.

I think part of the reason it is so horrible is that I don't know exactly when the drops are comming. The doors open up and the ride vehicle bounces slightly until it drops us. My hands are sweating just thinking about it.

The first time I went on it...I had my head buried in what I thought was my husbands shoulder. It was the strange man on the other side of me. I was too scared to even scream. I thought I was going to pass out actually.

The second time (a year or so later) I decided to give it another shot. Hated it just as much.

The third time was at MGM last month. I wanted to go on it for two reasons, it's slightly different than the one at DCA and has an added scene...and because my husband loves it. I hated it almost as much as the one at DCA. They have handles between the seats to hold onto...but I couldn't hold the one on my right because there was a large woman's behind covering it. When I wasn't holding my breath, I was screaming at the top of my lungs and/or yelling "I hate this!!!"

All three times when we got off I had to sit down because my legs were shaking so much. I do NOT like the feeling of being pulled to the ground. I don't like that my stomach ends up in my throat. I don't like it at all.

So far it is the only Disney ride that I truly do not like (although I have yet to ride the Death Wheel (sun wheel) or the maliboomer.) California Screamin', Rock N Rollercoaster, Expedition Everest....those I can handle. This one...not so much.

I just hate the feeling of falling/being pulled to the ground. I unintentionally hold my breath so it ends up being very uncomfortable and not fun at all. And as I said above, I hate that it opens the doors and then bounces a bunch before dropping us.

How would you compare the dropping stomach feeling on tower of terror to splash mountain???

I'm not really a huge fan of the drop on splash mountain. I always get a little nervous right before the drop....especially because of the creepy singing right before...haha. But since it's only one drop and it's quick, it doesn't bother me too much. And I don't bounce out of my seat like on ToT, which is a good thing....haha.

As I said, I'm glad I've done ToT a few times. And there's a good chance I'll work up the courage to go again one day (mainly because my husband loves it and partly because I keep thinking one of these days I'll start to like it.)

But after I go on it, I always feel shaky and just...weird. So I'm not a fan.

Just got from Disneyland 4 days ago and ToT was one my 4 year old daughters favorite rides. We rode it 3 times in a row because she kept wanting to go on it and she wanted to go on it more but I was feeling a little woozy after riding it that many times. There was no line at all (park just opened on a tuesday morning).

She would always hold on to me though and one of the times she decided to cling to some woman that was sitting by her. The lady looked pretty freaked out already and I am sure it did not help to have a 4 year old holding onto your entire arm for dear life. :)

She kept calling it the "elevator ride" and the last night we were there I asked her if she wanted to watch the fireworks or ride ToT one more time and she choose the "Elevator Ride"!

My Mother and Grandmother who don't do roller coasters or wild rides both love it! My Grandmother is very afraid of heights and still had a great time. This is the woman who got talked into doing Free Fall at MM and thought she was going to die on that ride. I agree that you need to at least try it once or you will never know if you like it or not.

Ok, if grandma can do it, I can do it! I hate Free Fall at MM too.

FreeFall at Magic was WAY SCARIER than ToT, if you have ever even been on FF then you have absolutely nothing to worry about!

I think some people get psyched out on the theming and story because the ride itself is actually very mellow. Most of it is the enclosed darkness, buildup and suspense.

Oh and I say FreeFall was (in the past tense) because Six Flags recently removed the true drop attraction.

:lmao:

Commonsense would dictate that if you really hate something then you only do it once, maybe twice to make sure you hate it but three times????

Seriously though I am guessing you did it three times to keep your husband company so all credit to you.:goodvibes

Well, I've only done it twice at DCA. I tried it once at MGM because I wanted to see the "5th dimension" or whatever it's called. It's an extra part where the ride vehicle actually leaves the elevator shaft. It was neat. But the drops...I could do without those...haha.

And yeah...I partly go on it because I know the hubby loves it.
