Tower of Terror question...

I will never go on the TOT again. EVER!

I was already slightly suffering from motion sickness, and that ride was just the icing on the cake.

I am glad I experienced it.

But never again!!

:scared:

Random drops = NOT GOOD!! I like to know what's coming up (or down, or around the bend). Who am I fooling? If I'm spending this much time researching this ride; watchig YouTube videos, etc., and having second thoughts, it's probably not for me. I don't want to ruin my 5-day vacation by being anxious, nauseous, or any of that stuff. I'll just stick to the semi-thrill rides that I know I love: Indy, BTMRR, and probably Space Mountain. (Yes, I know that one is fast, but it's in the dark, so not too bad.) Plus, all the Fantasyland rides, etc.

I must thank all of you for your input - your comments just crack me up! I know it's impossible to guess people's ages by the comments, but TheAXIOM, I know you're a young whippersnapper! :)

The drops are random. It is never exactly the same. I have been on it about 6-7 times and am terrified getting on each time, but for some reason keep doing it. It could be my 6 year old wanting to do it and if she can, I certainly should be able to. Because the drops are never quite the same, some have been scarier than others.

You know something? I used to say that, too, ("If she/he can do it, I can,") but now that I'm older, I know that people under age 10 have almost no anxiety or fear when it comes to these things. So now I say, "If you can do it... good for you! I'll be here waiting when you get back." :)

Actually the drops on DL ToT are NOT random. At WDW they are but at DL they are not. :)

I went on the Edge at Great America once....and then NEVER would I go on ANYthing even remotely like that so NO ToT for me....Until, my 6 y.o. DD went on it and LOVED it!! She kept telling me how much it was and I'd love it etc etc. Well, I skipped it that trip (2006) but when we went back in 2007 I told her I'd try it with her. So we all went on it (DD12 was 9 in 06 and didn't do it either) and I was soooooooooooooooooo scared...............I thought at one point I was going to freak, but then I started looking around and watching everything floating in the free fall and really started to enjoy myself. Now it's one of my absolute favorite rides at DCA!! For fun I give it a 10, for scary at first it was a 15 but now, it's a mild mannered 5. :)

Not sure what this means, but there are many drops and there sure seemed to be no pattern when I was grabbing those bars on the side of my seat praying for it to just stop.:scared1:

So the thing about TOT is that they aren't really "drops". They are controlled pulls. I cannot stand rides that drop you. I went on that thing at Great America ages ago that drops you and no no no won't do it. I won't go on Maliboomer. But TOT pulls you (faster than you would drop, I believe), and I can somehow sense that mechanical pull, and it makes it MUCH easier for me.

I mean, I'm an adult who still pulls up her feet on Soarin' b/c it feels so real at some points, but the feeling of the pull on TOT calms her down. Go figure! :confused3

I didin't think I'd like Tower at all, but I do. And the hang time is very fun. Just keep ahold of any bags you have with you, b/c they will float!

:rotfl2: With all the bellyachin' I've been doing about this, would you believe the very, very first roller coaster I ever went on was the Superman in Six Flags (the one that goes 0-100 mph, and is in a L-shape.) Worse yet, I was in the front row, with an outside seat. Guess what? I LOVED IT!! The hang time was so cool, and Superman was right above me looking down. Our hair and necklaces were all floating in the air. (It was also the first time I ever heard my sister curse - haha!) So... we shall see. Maybe if I try TOT at the end of the day and freak out, I can just go back to the hotel and sleep it off.

Well all that I know like I had stated in my previous post, is that the ride does not scare me, but rather made me feel rather un at ease, because of the affects that it ended up giving me, I believe what I ended up feeling is motion sickness, what is kind of weird though, is that I have never had a problem with that before this ride, and have not since. So for me, it is a physiological condition, not an emotional one, i.e. being scarred of heights, etc.
I do not know why some people can feel that way on this ride, but not others. So if there are any nurses or doctors reading these posts, I sure would be interested in knowing the answers.

I always leave the ride with tears in my eyes. Not tears because I am scared but because I am laughing. I really like this ride.

The drops are programmed, they are the same every time. That's what it means. :)

Oh and Molly is correct, they are more like pulls than drops. That's probably why I can do it with no problems. :)

I have to agree with DesertBell's not-fun scary assessment of TOT. I tried it once and that was more than enough for me! I did not like the feeling of the floor dropping out from underneath me, which BTW made me feel like I was plunging to my death. The feeling of my butt rising off the seat was NOT fun! The whole time I was literally thinking I want to get off! Just like Disney Dreams, I was praying for it to stop.

You will live through it. And, trying it just once maybe is good, just to be able to say that you did it.

I must add that this is the one ride my DS-17 refuses to go on, as well. You would think he is at an age when he might consider himself nearly invincible and not scared of anything but even he ain't going near it again.

Oh, I can say one good thing.... it did not give me a migraine. More gray hair maybe, but no migraine.

I agree Mariezp, I did not like rising out of my seat either, really I did not care for that one darn bit. Frankly, I felt like I was going to fall out the door, I happed to be in the first seat, in the front row. And again, I too, by the time the ride was over, only I did not know that right off, I too was thinking please stop this ride, I am done with it, and I want to get the hell out of here, but again, thank god, that the ride was over!!!!! (great big sigh of relief!)

Did anyone else not like the "ups" on TOT? I did not like them at all. Those "pulls" were almost worse for me than the drops and I went on Screamin' and all the Mountains last time with no problem at all!

My DS loves ToT - me, not so much, but I will go on it with him. The first time I went on, I nearly lost my breakfast - literally! I had no idea what to expect and I sat in the middle, next to the aisle, which is a huge mistake - nothing to hang on to on that one side :scared1: I screamed the ENTIRE time and seeing this big, strong guy chicken out just before the ride started did not help me any.

However, I survived the ride and after I had rested (boy, was I lightheaded and a bit barfy feeling after!) I did go on it again the same day and I was fine. I think the screaming made me feel worse - I did not scream the second time and I made sure I sat on the inside, next to the wall, so I had something to hold onto on both sides. It's not my fave, but I can do it (and I am terrified of heights!)

I don't really like the part where they open the doors while you are up high so you can see out. I close my eyes!

Just reading what people like about ToT has my heart rate accelerated and me feeling a bit queezy (sp?).

The lifting out of my seat might have been the worst part. It truly made me feel I was not locked in properly and was terrified I was going to pop out on each next drop.

- Dreams

P.S. LOVE Soarin'!

OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You don't like feeling out of control. Instead of relaxing and going with the flow.

LOL I was just going to post about this tonight but I see someone beat me too it.

I had a question for someone out there who is big on ride specs. but can anyone tell me what is the MAX amount of distance of the biggest drop/pull on ToT? I'm not talking about the height of the ride shaft but the distance between the start and the break of the biggest drop, anyone know how much of a distance it is? Knowing that might help ease my fear.

Oh and from being good friends with a CM who worked on the ride at DHS I can tell you that the drops are random at WDW and the same at DCA.

I am afraid of heights and of falling. I do not like to feel out of control unless I am securely strapped in. I LOVE roller coasters. I have yet to meet a roller coaster I didn't like. I refuse to ride any form of ferris wheel or the Mailboomer. Those swinging pirate ship rides.. ugh.. we just won't go there. haha

Knowing that my fear was caused by an accident as a child, I have been working on getting past it. I have ridden the ToT once. That was plenty. lol I've had the experience but I think I'll sit on a bench with my caramel popcorn while the kids ride it from now on. :thumbsup2 I think I'd have been fine had it only dropped once and the doors had not opened for a park view at the top. :lmao:

That said, I think eveyrone should try it once (barring serious medical condition of course).
