Can still do most big coasters at amusement parks, but in my old age it seems spinners (a la Tilt a Whirl types) and more recently demon drops/free falls have ruined me for the next few hours. My young son is also not a big fan of the freefalls. Someone told us you can go through the queue of Tower of Terror but then exit right before you get on the elevator/ride itself. Everyone says the theming/ride buildup is just tremendous, so can we do the line but exit right beforehand, and if so how? Does anyone do this? Thanks in advance.

Yes. Just as the line heads to the ride elevators you can break off to the exit elevator. Just let the CM know.

You'll have to wait for a CM to take you down. It lets you out right where the ride lets out. There are benches where you can wait for the rest of your party.

I've taken the chicken exit (aka the not "broken" elevator) many times. I usually crack a joke about how ironic it is to be taking an elevator to bypass another elevator. The CM is usually in character when they pick you up at the ride start but not for the ride down. I'm sure they seen their share of freaked out people and dial the acting down once out of view.

So it can obviously be done - thanks much for the replies! If the wait time is short then is it worth seeing/doing (just viewing the buildup and exiting before the ride itself)?

I so wish I would have taken the chicken exit when we went in November. I went with my daughter with plans to take the chicken exit, she is in a wheelchair so couldn't go on her own through the queue but when we got to the elevator she begged me to go and the couple in front of us egged me on so I went. Big mistake. I don't like drops at all, seriously it was horrible, I haven't been that scared for a long time. It's a funny story though and my daughter thought it was hilarious that she convinced her mom who hates drops to go on a drop ride.

If you have the time for it, the line is great. Lots of things to look at, especially once you get inside the hotel.

I wish I could talk my mom into this, try and tell her there are things to see and she dont have to drop, She sits out side until everyone is done,

I am right there with you! I don't mind drops in one shot(like Freefall at Great Adventure), but the random drops over and over was terrifying! I agreed to go on with my kids on our trip 2 yrs ago, and they loved it and wanted to go again, but there was no way - luckily there was a long wait by then anyway. I think we did like 5 drops, and I kept thinking, "When is it going to stop?!":scared: Last trip in Dec. was just DD and I, and she wanted to go(and could've gone alone since she's 12 but didn't want to), but I could not even consider it. Usually when you know what to expect it's better, but with this it is even scarier to me picturing the last time. I can say I've done it and don't need to do it again.
