Tower of Terror 10 Miler 2014

Just one question...

Are there photopass photographer during the race at the character photo op?

According to my DBF (who has done many runDisney races), unfortunately Disney does not have PhotoPass photographers at the character photo ops during the races.

Photopass is not out, but there is another company, Marathonfoto that basically operates the same way. They are with all the characters and throughout the race they are snapping shots (finish line, certain turns, etc). You don't have a card, they just group photos together by your bib number and email you a couple of days later. I didn't order any last race and I am still not sure if that is because I looked awful waking up at 3am or if it was their cameras :crazy2: - looked like this in most of them! ha. There are also CM handlers there for the characters that are happy to take a photo with your phone or camera too!

Do you have any idea of Marathonfoto's prices? Can you buy a cd?

Their prices to me are outrageous. I just got a "special" for three downloaded images for $30. The special is get 3 for the price of one. $30 for one digital image seems high to me- especially given that they may not be the best pics any way. I know you can buy an entire cd- and I think that is more inline with the pp- but since in average there are maybe 10 photos if me... Still doesn't seem like a great deal.

I think I'm just going to use my phone for pictures with the characters as I'll need my music to keep my pace up anyway.

That's my plan too. My only worry is that I don't know the quality of the photos my phone takes at night. Does anyone know if there are lights by the character stops or have examples of photos taken with their phones?

I ran more than 4 miles for the first time this weekend and felt great doing it, so I'm feeling optimistic about being able to do the 10 miles by October.

And I get it's per person for a cd too huh? Not per family?

I worry about that too - don't think they will be very good at dark. And I'm pretty sure our party won't stay together so it would mean multiple cameras...

Ugh! At least there's plenty of time to figure out a plan.

I just signed up for this race! Very excited!!!

This is my 2nd RunDisney- as I ran last year's 2013 Wine & Dine 1/2.

I signed up for the 10 miler & the 5K in the morning.....

Let the countdown begin! So just saying Hi to everyone!! :wave2::wave2:
Looking forward to running!

So I'm really wanting to sign up as my friends and I were planning on hitting disney up anyways around that time. However we want to go down for more than 3 days. It looks like the discounts only apply for three days? Would other days be at the regular price?

Thanks!

You can buy longer length tickets. I personally looked at 6 day passes, so I know they at least go up that far. I am nearly positive you could get longer tickets.

For hotel, the main requirement is that the night of the race is included in the stay. For example, they could give me Beach Club for 4 nights (sold out the 5th night), or Boardwalk for all 5 nights. But, they could not give me Beach Club for 4 nights AND Boardwalk for 1 additional, since that 1 additional night was not connected to race day. Does that make sense? haha. I guess the basic point is you can't do split stays with the discount.

Yup- per person. So when you have 3 ( like me) the cost adds up quickly.

Yea. There are 4 of us so I totally understand.

My travel agent booked me October 1 - 7 through Run Disney at the discounted rate of $161 a night for POR.

Even with the room discount, it's just too much for a single person to swing on my own. I'm probably going to end up getting a campsite at Ft Wilderness and tossing an air mattress in the back of my Element for sleeping. I'll have to drive to the race, but I'll be a lot closer than trying to find a cheap off property hotel.

.

At the Wine & Dine they did indeed have large spotlights by all the character stops. I think you would be fine with an iPhone photo or smaller camera photo (this is what I used).

What got me is I didn't have ANY pictures of me crossing the finish line.. and I wanted them- because this was my first (and possibly only) half ever... and so I still ended up shelling out the big bucks to marathon photo people.

Thanks for the information and good news about the lights :) though I didn't even think about the finish line photo. I guess marathon photo would be the only way to get that one.

Wow... so we're booked!

Two of us running, another friend coming along. 5 nights at CB. It has been 12 years since I've been and this is going to be my first long distance race! Talk about serious motivation.

Excited!

That's why I signed up too - motivation to keep going. I trained so hard for the Wine & Dine..and the second I was done.. I quit running...

Local races don't hold the same appeal as the Disney ones..and so here I am again! :) And amazingly.. back on the treadmill today after not running a mile since the 1/2 marathon! It really does motivate well!

I'm with you! I'm a go big or go home kind of gal. There's a great local women's only running group here where I live so I'm going to start training with them again. I was in a horrendous job situation that just gave me no motivation to work out, now I'm at a fantastic job with normal hours and the desire to exercise is there again. In fact I'm going to walk to/from work each day as part of my workout plan!

Question to all, because its been so long since I've been to WDW, clearly. They wont stack discounts correct? So having the rundisney rate, I wouldn't be able to add free dining if it became available correct?

Correct

We're still on the fence about TOT and W&D this year....so excited for all of you who have registered though!

Question....I've been looking at the maps and I guess DHS doesn't have any park hotels. It was so nice to walk home from W&D to BWV when we were ready and not have to wait on transportation. Do you guys have any suggestions for walkable hotels from DHS? Or will/can the water taxis take us to the Epcot resorts? Or should we just drive?...although I realize the hassle there with road closures, etc.
Yep, we're all about convenience! Thanks in advance!

Colleen

I know, I know I need a siggy....
