DH is very worried about the towel situation at DVC. We can throw them in the washer between tt days, right?

Can we "borrow" from the pool area too?

We were at OKW for the first time in Nov. of 2002 & I was also very concerned about the towels. I just have a thing about having a fresh towel when I shower - especially on vacation. I like to be pampered a little.

We had no problem getting towels from the pool area & once I laundered the big thick ones that are there when you arrive.

Anyway, no need to worry. You should be fine with the towel situation.

That's what I thought too. It might be kind of nice to just leave the room and not worry about anyone rummaging around while you are gone....

Please, if you want an extra set of towels, they can be obtained from housekeeping for a nominal fee.

Taking pool towels for use in the room costs all of us money, as pool towels require special laundering. Ultimately, promoting this practice will cause DVD resorts to restrict accessability to pool towels (much as they already do at Vero Beach).

It's my understanding that they are required to use different cleaning agents with pool towels, which as a result, makes them more expensive to clean.

DVC makes it quite easy for people to be pampered by having the "pay as you play" program without impacting the dues of all members. Extra towels for the room are readily available for a nominal fee.

allright....Of all the worries that can go into a vacation, i have to think towels are low on the list.....of course this is coming from a guy who would be happy to use an old shirt to dry off...we always just throw them in the washer when we go to the parks and cycle them through so there is always some ready when we get home......I mean come on lets all be really vain and just "air dry".:p :jester:

I agree! Towels are an issue for us as well. Since we will be staying in studio accomodations we won't have the luxury of the washing machine :-( I'm still not sure what to do. I suppose we could bring some towels in an extra suitcase but not sure I want to do that either...hmmmm.

I don't want to start a major debate here, but I use a fresh towel at home each morning to shower, use it again in the evening before bed when I "wash up" & then use it to wipe down the bathroom counter & sinks. Therefore, requiring a fresh one the following day.

I'm not trying to incure additional expenses on members, I would just like a fresh towel & if I don't have time on my vacation to launder them, I think I'll grab one from the pool area.

Also, when we stayed at FW & requested additional towels to use at the pool they gave us the same ones we used in the room, so I don't see how they could keep them separate (at least at that resort)

That is true, it costs dramatically more to launder the pool towels than the regular towels. If the practice is wide spread of stealing pool towels, eventually they won't have them any more. There are many timeshares that don't provide them.

If you are staying in a studio you can still throw in a load of laundry in the common laundry area. If you are really worried about towels, request extra and pay the few dollars for them.
It is nice to know that everything in the room will be where you left it and that you don't have to keep hours around housekeeping!

When we were at the BWV's over New Year's we asked for trash/towel service like we always do. The CM at the desk asked why? We said that we liked fresh towels and didn't want to wash them every day. He told us to just get extra from the pool and save the money. I kid you not. I never thought much about it again until reading this thread. By the way, we still got trash/towel like we always do.

Towels were part of the DVC "pay as you play" program. Those who want extra supplies pay for them individually rather than spreading the cost to all the members. You can get 4 sets of towels for $6. You can get an extra trash/towel service for $10, which includes new soaps.

In May we will be spending about four days in a studio at OKW. The only other time I was in a studio there was years ago and we had daily maid service, so I didn't pay attention to the towels. Does anyone remember how many towels are provided in a studio? When we were in the villas we washed towels about every other day, but I can't recall if there is a different (smaller) number of towels in the studios. Can anyone else?

What I really don't want is to have to trek to the laundry each and every day. And I don't think that I would feel comfortable taking any pool towels, although I don't believe there is some incredibly expensive special cleaning done for those towels! Sounds like an old wives tale in the making..........

OKW is surpose to give you 4 towels (one for each person that could sleep here) - if there are 4 towels in the room when you get there - call housekeeping immediately.

once when we stayed in a 1-bedroom there were only 2 towels - HK came and completely cleaned the bathroom (didnot ask for that) and brought all new towels.

Maybe you guys think this is gross, but hang your towels up to dry (your clean when you use them) and use a squeegie to wipe down the shower and a spritz of clean shower does the trick for the walls

C'mon folks!!! Washing towels every other day in your own provded washer is not a big deal! Just throw them in when you leave in the morning and put them in the drier when you come home for a break. When DH and I are traveling alone, there is an extra set by the whirlpool tub, so we don't have to was every day. DO NOT borrow from the pool area. Those are there for us to enjoy when we are at the pool and hot tub. I hate it when I go down to the hot tub before bedtime and there are no towels left! That even happened this January when it was quite chilly out!!!

I don't have a problem with washing them, however, I won't throw them in the washer or dryer when I'm gone. DH's aunt had a drier fire in her home & my washer started on fire one afternoon. Thank goodness we were both home.

Another friend was not so lucky - she wasn't home when her 2nd floor washing machine overflowed & ruined all the carpeting & flooring in her house - a hose exploded while she was gone.

Just be cautious of leaving a washer or dryer going while you're away.

I have to agree with the others who ask that you not take them from the pool area. While it may be just a couple of towels for you, imagine if everyone did the same thing. (As I'm sure some already do.)

As mentioned, for a nominal fee, you can get extra towels.

I don't mind hanging up a towel and reusing it. I do have a problem reusing washcloths. I packed extras of those for our last trip.

I simply throw the batch of towels in the washer every couple of days.
