Towels

both on the ship and when you are getting off for an excursion. No need to pack unless you really want to take your favorite, big, plush beach towel.

In Nassau on our way off the ship to the Dolphin Encounter, we forgot to pick-up the towels as we exited the ship, so we had to buy towels at the gift shop while on the excursion.

Remember to pick them up as you leave the ship. It's so easy to forget in all the excitement.

Are the towels you get on the ship nice or rough? Are they big - like beach towels or small like bathroom towels?

I like a nice big towel for the pool/beach! I may just bring my own.

Thanks!

The towels are longer than your standard bath towel. I don't think they are very plush so if you are attached to soft squishy beach towels you may want to bring your own. I did always pick up 2 for each person when we left the ship.

Enjoy

Hopkins, You did the Dolphin Encounter? Did you plan it yourself or you did you go with DCL? Did you have fun? Was it worth the $$? I plan on doing the encounter next week with my DM. I have gone with Disney so everything has been taken care of. I just wanted to hear what others say about it. Thank you for your help

Castawy Cay: no problem
Disney excursion: no problem
Independent excursion: Problem! Best to grab some from the pool area before you go.

So says the guy who had to buy a beach towel at Grand Cayman before his snorkel excusrion.

Mtdewbuzz - Actually that was just what I was wondering about - Does Disney frown upon guests taking towels off the ship when doing independent excursions?

I was planning on grabbing 2 fresh towels late the night before our Capt. Marvin's snorkeling tour, which we are doing on our own.

They won't gang-tackle me as we get off the ship with their towels, will they??

Towels are available in a bin right at the gang way. You take them with you if you need them. We went to the beaches on our own at all three islands and used DCL towels. You then throw them in a big bin on your return right at the gang way. No need to buy towels anywhere, enless you really want too.

Beano- I don't think they FROWN on it, it's just that when we did Capt. Marvin's, we got all the way to the tender & realized we did not see any towels, not even on the gangway as DAP&I stated.
When we did the jeep safari thru Disney in Cozumel, the towels were sitting in the club we met at, and at Castway Cay there was a whole rack available just as you stepped off the boat.
You don't have to sneak like a thief in the night. I would just suggest going up to deck 9 & grabbing a few before you meet to tender into Grand Caymans, just to be safe.

Towels are available - but they are not soft and big like the ones from home - HOWEVER, you don't have to pack them or WASH them. Use the ship towels - just don't forget to ask for them. Just a note, as we were getting of the ship in the afternoon at St. Martins for an "independent" excursion - all of the towels were gone. I was complaining very loudly that I would have to "write this up in my evaluation" and suddently a guy was chasing me down the gang plank asking me how many towels I NEEDED!!!! So, you can get towels!! Don't pack 'em!

I assumed that the towels were complimentary for Disney excursions and if you book an excursion on your own, you should take your own towels. We pay extra for the Disney excursion and I figured the towels were part of that.

A CM went on each of the Disney excursions we went on in case there was a problem or need. She kept an eye out for towels to make sure all were returned also. I suspect that Disney pays for the excursion and sends it out with a bit fewer people than the excursion might take otherwise.

When we did a snorkeling excursion at Nassau from RCCL the boat was CROWDED and the reef was CROWDED. When we did snorkeling excursions with DCL it was not crowded.

So we all pay a bit more for the perks of towels, a CM with us and fewer people. Seems fair.

Personally, I think the towels are complimentary whether you're on a DCL excursion or on your own. In my previous DCL cruises, the towels were readily available near the exit door for any passenger to take.

Towels are complimentary whether you are on a DCL-sponsored excursion or doing it on your own. If they don't have towels by the gangway, you can take them from the pool areas on Deck 9.
