Here's a dumb question for you all. Are you supposed to take the towel animals home with you as a souvenir or just use them while you're at WDW?

I think you are suppose to leave them.

now you can call housekeeping and ask permission to take one.

I am sure they are not meant to take home, but a lot of people do take them home. This is a very good question. I am interested in reading more posts about this. :)

On our last trip to POP century we met out mousekeeper one afternoon. She had made two for us a boy and girl bunny (we have a son and daughter) she specifically reminded us not to forget to take our animals home. I don't know if this was just her or a policy from everyone, but we have the cutest towel animals ever to remind us of our trip.

i guess official policy is they're meant to stay, but the housekeepers don't care. i don't know what happens to those that get left (i leave mine there). i imagine it's not hygienic to give the towel to someone else (who knows what happened to it) and it's not likely to be disassembled and bleached.

I asked the front desk at Pop and was told they're mine to keep

There was a rather long thread on this subject a few weeks ago. Several people said that had spoke to Mousekeeping and that you are definitely encouraged to take them home to enjoy!

Thanks for posting this! I never would have considered taking them anymore than other hotel towels. It's great to know they can be kept.

We took them because I asked our mousekeeper and she said to take them. Funny aside, she said "you're paying for them!"

Darn I wish I would have known. I just got back from WL yesterday and we left all of ours there. My mom on the other hand took one. But I just felt they were like any other towels at the resort and left them. Besides even though they were cute I am not sure what I would do with them when I got them home. LoL

My DH was in the room gathering items for me to pack while I shopped at DTD on the day of our check out from CBR last year. Mousekeeping came by (we had a late check out) and handed the towel animals to him. He mentioned he thought they were supposed to stay, but she told him no, when they make these they are gifts for the guests. We'll keep them from now on, the DDs have loved looking at them!

Our last trip to WL we got a duck and swan, I still have them. I put them in the bathroom, so I and everyone can enjoy looking at them.

we just got back from a week a pofq with a 2 and 5 yo and did not get one towel animal thewhole time and our friends were at gf and got them everyday!:confused3

In early May, we were at POFQ and got a lot of towel animals! (Thanks, Marie!!!:thumbsup2 ) My DGD(2) loved them. We did not take them home because I thought that we weren't supposed to!:confused3 At least we did get pictures of them.:)

We had the same experience at POR May 8-15th...I even tipped $5 each day and still not one towel animal :confused3

for the [broken] record, tipping has no effect on towel animals. a small percentage of housekeepers make them and they have to make them on their own time (with some minor exceptions) so they have a limited supply. it's dumb luck, pure and simple.

unless of course you request one.

I have a confession to make. We were new to the "real" vacation idea last year (as opposed to pArents treating or heading to visit family with day trips out).

We didn't realize we should tip mousekeeping. (we will this year) So, we didn't. not at all. We got 2-3 towel animals each day! We left with nine after our short trip. We did display them and had them with the DDs animals so the mousekeepers knew we liked them. . .

So, that said, I don't think tipping affects it at all. . . (as bradk said). . .

But, I'm seeing a trend, looks like POR doesn't have many CMs interested in making these. . .

I tip (and tip very well) and sometimes I get them, sometimes I don't.

Although it is fine to take them home (according to Disney, if not the DIS towel animal police), I no longer do. We have enough!!
