Touring Universal alone in January and with questions

Good day Disboards. This might strike some of you as out-of-the-norm but with a business trip scheduled in mid-January, and by virtue of the fact that I'm traveling alone, I have some down-time on my travel day before meetings start the following morning.

My goal is to try and hit Universal Studios for a few hours and perform a little "recon" as I intend on taking the whole family (wife and 3 kids) later in the year. Of course, recon will involve riding the rides and seeing the shows, but who can blame me?

2 questions:

1) How easy is it to secure a one day, 2 park ticket without going on a timeshare tour etc? How much would I expect to pay?
2) Has anyone used this forum in the past to meet up with like-minded visitors who could partner up and hit the park together, rather than touring solo? I've visited WDW alone in the past, and to be honest it's still a great time but it's alot more fun if you have someone to tour with.

I've never been to this side of the DIS before, as all of my visits have been to WDW thus far. Thanks for any feedback you might have. The next 2 days following my travel day are to be spent in a conference room with 300 other attorneys, so I'm hoping to at least enjoy the beginning of my trip!

Have a great day.

As far as the park ticket goes, you might want to see if your conference has any discounted tickets available. otherwise you can expect to pay $165.00 plus tax for the single day ticket for both parks. There are no discounts on single day tickets.

People have tried to meet up on here and its hit or miss. Except for the Halloween Horror Nights meet ups I think it's pretty hard to meet someone who might have the same schedule as you. You might want to try one of the Facebook groups but going alone will be fine. It might actually be better so you can carefully check everything out for your family and not have to worry about slowing someone else down.

I am getting a few days by myself in March, and I'm going to do some tours (at both WDW and Universal). I'd see if any of Universal's tour options would work with your schedule. You get to see a lot in a limited amount of time. Its more expensive to do tours, but I have found a lot of value in getting to hear the tour guide's stories and quickly see the highlights.

I did something similar to this years ago. I accompanied my sister to her Orlando meeting and visited the parks alone while she was in meetings. We did dinners in Citywalk in the evening and one day together. I used the time to figure out whether my young kids were ready for those parks (we'd only been to WDW at that point) and decided they needed another year or two. But I then was able to plan our trip really well and look out for discounts. It was fun, even by myself.
