Whenever i optimize my AK plan touring plans puts the Pandora rides first at rope drop. I feel that this is where the masses are going at opening and i would rather head in the other direction and hit Dinosaur and Everest first.

We are not into mob scenes and i feel that people scrambling to get into Pandora will be too chaotic with my in laws (active 70 year olds) and our 4 DD. We would rather venture over to pandora after lunch with hopes of a FoP FP and stand by for Navi ( or hitting Navi another day with FP)

Am i wrong in my thought process?

If you're looking to do them on FP, put that into Touring Plans and it will accommodate it. Without a FP, your best options are first thing (pre-park opening) or last thing (30 minutes before close). I suspect with a 4 year old you're not looking to close the park so that leaves early morning. Going at opening though, you will wait a LONG time. You need to get there an hour prior to park open to have a shorter wait. And it's all relative. You still wait, just prior to park opening instead of during the first 2 hours of the park being open.

However, with a 4 year old, you have the option to rider switch. So, if you can get one of your party a FP on FoP, and then the rest of your family a FP on Navi, you can rider switch FoP and everyone would be able to ride it and everyone except one could ride Navi with a FP.

My Cousin did rope drop two days ago and the wait was 3 hours. Just letting you know.

Yikes -- this is what we are trying to avoid. Keeping our fingers crossed for a FP -- still a few months away

If you are set on a specific ride order, but really want to use touring plans, use evaluate instead of optimize.

We used easywdw's cheat sheets to prioritize our rides but entered everything into touring plans and shifted and adjusted once ADRs and FPs were in place. I would say to set your walking speed at least one level slower than you think it will be. We traveled with 2 sets of grandparents and that is the area that tripped us up. Being a bit older they really liked having a paper itinerary with the steps numbered on the map. If someone wanted to skip something, they had an idea of where/when to meet up.

Curious what time they arrived for what time of park opening. If they arrived at 7:55 for an 8 AM park opening, I would expect at least 2 hours wait. Those who advise doing rope drop to ride FoP also advise you get there a minimum of one hour prior to park opening. They open it early - maybe around 30 minutes early, and let people start riding before the official park opening.
