Has anyone joined touringplans.com? I understand it's part of the UG, how good is it? It's pretty inexpensive and I wondered how it might compare (if at all) to TGM?

I signed up, and I cant compare.

You have to decide what you want, how much work you want to do, and how much you want to spend. I gather from the many TGM posts I read here, its a very personal descion. If you have UG book, you'll have a great deal of information... I like the touringplans I like the price, I have an older edition of UG, so I thought to supplement it with the site - and for me, it works, its not for everyone. On Touring plans, you get "Free" plans to see if it will meet your needs... on touring plans you get the free Best Days, and you get free advice from Len here on the Dis... The dis has lots of information free - I just wanted the extra step of the plan, and I got it at touring plans and I copied off 2 different plans...

again, different strokes for different folks... everyone gets to decide based on their lifestyle, touring styles!!

Nicely said and "ditto" - I signed up, and I cant compare.

One thing about the touring plans that may apply to TGM as well... They don't tell you specifically what they're leaving out of any one plan and why. Also, since we're a large group, it was difficult to choose a category that fit us. But the information was useful and at this point, information from these boards, the touring plans and elsewhere has been put in a blender and out came "our" plan.

Okay, so guess touringplans.com is more just a list of plans on selected days but no explainations of why.

Being a detail oriented person, I suppose I'll want the why's and all the extra information I understand TGM has on his site. Thanks for the input!

Hi AmyG,

I'm pretty sure we cover the "Why." In fact, all the touring plans have a section titled "How and Why This Plan Works," covering the basic ideas and strategies used. Let me know if you can't find those (they're on the "detailed" version of each plan).

Sincerely,

Len

I agree with Len's post, like I said, I hadnt spent a lot of time with the detailed plans due to my family touring style, I like the specific plans - for specific days - and I believe there is a "why" included, again, you do get to decide based on your families touring style in the end, which is what my family needs... I find the plans my "saving" grace, when my family looks at me for direction,I'm able to pull up 1` or 2 plans (did we get there at opening, or did we sleep in?) either way I feel prepared!!

"After further review" of one of the free detailed plans (can't remember my password at the moment) indeed there is a nice description of thinking that goes in to a plan. Just a thought: when generating a plan, it would be nice to also see (on the plan) what attractions were left out -- perhaps as a little appendix or foot note. Then I could make a note to myself to help explain "how come we're not going on that ride?"
