That largely depends on the following:
1) Onsite or offsite?
2) How long?
3) # of people in party, little ones?
4) ADR's, current and intended?
5) Other attractions (hard ticket events, etc)
At the end of the day, your ADR's alone may dictate what park you will be in and when so having a touring plan is definately advisable. You don't need to account for every waking moment of the day or even every hour but morning, afternoon and evening is a different story.
I am in the final stages of my touring plan which starts with 3 adults for the first 4 days then increases to 7 adults, 3 children and a baby for the last 4 days. There's a ton of ADR's, a bunch of evening activities yet somehow, I managed to schedule a day off, an evening off and a ocuple of sleep late mornings. Did I mention that this will be during the 1st week of December?
The annual taping for the holiday parade takes plave that 1st wekend while Pop Warner and some other big event take place during the week. We know that we will not have everything that there is to see and do but do expect to hit all of the major attractions and hopefully, some of the not so majr ones along the way.
