I'd really like to take a ride through Beverly Hills to see some of the fancy houses - but I don't want to do the tour bus thing. I'd just like to drive the rental car through.

As long as we don't stop and gawk like morons, will anyone give us a hard time? :D

Well, if they did, this would be the first that I've heard. When we have relatives fly in, they wanted to do the same thing and I always obliged them. Never did I have a problem doing this.

there are security patrolling the homes area all the time so if you drove through the neighborhood slowly in a beat up old car, i think that would raise a red flag. i hate to say it but profiling still goes on.

i highly doubt you'll have any problems in a rental car! have fun!

Mary Jo and I (& Meg!) just did this on Sunday. We had a blast. We wished we had time to buy the map of the stars homes and go peeking. We got out, took photos,etc.. and no one was concerned. Mary Jo has a nice new car, but its not a jaq or anything....and no one seemed to care! I say go for it!

We did this, and frequently stopped to film and no one even cared - they are obviously used to it. Have to say I found it all very underwhelming though - nice, rather than than spectacular. But getting a star map may have made it more interesting (we didn't - so buy one before you go).

How do you know where to go? Where do you obtain a star map? I noticed one lady mentioned in another thread that she'd been by the house filmed in Father of the Bride, which would be neat. (I'll have to go back and find that thread and inquire of her.)

Star maps can be bought from hotel lobbies, the Mann Chinese Theatre in Hollywood etc - saw them in quite a number of places.

If you have a specific place you want to see search http://www.imdb.com/Sections/Locations/ - it has a pretty good database.

Another tip Mary Jo as posted on another thread - there is very cheap parking in the parking garage attached to the shopping mall next to Mann's Chinese Theatre. We discovered it by acident - go past the theatre heading west, then turn right. If you have your tickets validated in the mall it's just $2 - we bought a pretzel and they stamped the ticket for us.
