Totally Stressed and getting worried now...

I just had to come on here and get this off my chest.

I am awaiting my unemployment phone call interview today. Never got a time they would call but I do have a few more things to do today but I want to be able to speak with them and get it out of the way.

I really need the money, my severance was only 4 weeks pay and I got laid off on Nov.7th. I know many others are no better than I am but I am still totally stressed and freaking out. I have many bills to pay and they won't go away.

Anyone have a way to calm my crazy nerves right now???

They'll call you and you'll get your money.

If it makes you feel better I was laid off last week. No severance pay. Hang in there - things will work out. You aren't alone.

It will be fine. DH has been laid off since June. His initial claim ran out last week and now he's on extended benefits. It will be almost seamless.

Just curious as to why you waited until your severance pay was exhausted to apply for unemployment. In PA, you can collect your unemployment and severance pay at the same time. You can also collect at the same time you receive any vacation pay as long as you can state you don't expect to be called back.

Didn't your letter give you a time?? It's usually a 3 hour window. My dh was called within 5 minutes of his window the other day. Good luck.

Can you forward your phone to your cell phone? Maybe going out and doing your errands would take your mind off it.

I was laid off a few years ago and I was able to collect unemployment at the same time as severance. I had almost a year in severance, so it lasted longer than my unemployment did!

Just got off the phone with them.

I guess NJ is different, I can't collect until I had my phone interview and the earliest was today. I have been claiming since I was laid off on Nov. 7th. So now as long as everything checks out I should get a check within 5 to 7 business days.

They have my birthday wrong...I don't know how but the year is wrong. So I dont want any delay but I have to go into unemployment tomorrow and bring them my birth certificate and photo ID.

So thanks for checking in with me. Just glad its all done now.

me either...but then I went directly to the office and had a face to face interview.

Yes I know certain people were just able to collect right away certain people had phone interviews, another friend of mine who just got laid off, has to GO to unemployment for a sit down interview before she receives anything.

She was a teacher beforehand and I am not sure that she ever collected before, she is in her 60's as well.

I myself have never collected either and been in the workforce for 16 years. Don't know why they did it that way. I am just glad I got the phone call out of the way now I can go about my day feeling much better.

By the way to the PP who just got laid off It's not easy but I try to think "happy thoughts" as much as I can.

Gosh! Glad DH is collecting from PA (even though we live in NJ). They didn't make us jump through any hoops. He just called them and told them he was laid off. They sent us information in the mail (took less than a week) and everything else has been done via the internet.
