I'm asking here 'cause I know several of you own wii. My girls think they want a wii console. What would we need to purchase besides the console? I'm totally clueless!!! I understand that some games need special pieces. What are the basics we would need to start with and what are your favorite games? TIA Cheryl

When you buy the console, it comes with one controller and one nunchuk. So in order to play against someone, you will need to purchase at least an additional controller and a nunchuk. It can support, up to 4 people at one time, but think about how often you will actually have 4 people playing, to decide if you really need 4 sets.

If you want Mario Kart, you can use a steering wheel. But it is not required equipment. You can play without them, and some people prefer not to have them.

If you want WiiFit you need to get the balance board.

Also, it may be useful to get a charger, or at least rechargeable batteries. We just have the rechargeable batteries, and don't use a Wii controller charger.

Oh, favorite games!

Mine are the Mario Games: Super Mario Galaxy 1 & 2, Super Paper Mario, Super Mario Brothers, Mario Kart

Also, the LEGO games are super fun: I've played the Star Wars ones, both Indiana Jones ones and I'm getting the Harry Potter one at Target on BF.

Epic Mickey comes out on November 30th. This is one of the most eagerly anticipated games for the Wii.

I really like the Shrek party game and TSM game. I have always prefered the party style games though.

we have one, have 2 controls and 1 numchuk, Wii sports and Wii resorts came with our package (bought the extra control and a charger that was on sale) Megan's asking for TSM, Wii Dance and Wii Party for xmas.

we love to do bowling turny's...btw I hold the family high score of 297!!!..my friends boys love all the lego and starwars, DN big on the mario stuff.

It is a lot of fun and everyone can play.

I got Dan one for his 40th b-day (two years ago when they were impossible to find, I got lucky!), and we LOVE it! I have to say of all the games we have, the one that came with the console is the best - Bowling is AWESOME! Morgan used the Hannah Montana one for weeks and weeks on end. I'm probably going to get her the Glee game for Christmas this year.

Have fun!

I think I'm gonna get it as a gift for the girls & DH for Christmas. I've been looking for a "deal". Both girls were talking about Epic Mickey and Glee. DH is on the computer a lot playing games and he's really hard to shop for! I'm leaning toward Star Wars for him.

Thanks for the help all :)

Oh, Morgan and Dan LOVE the Lego games. I think we have Lego Harry Potter for the Wii (we also have a PS3, so I could be wrong).

I think Robert would love the lego games too. He always asks for lego kits as gifts. So much to think about.

Is Epic Mickey something I would need to pre-order?

I wouldn't think so. I bet there will be a bazillion available the day they come out. (Looks like 11/30).

I suggest getting games at Best Buy. They have a rewards program that gives you points and then coupons off of stuff when you reach a certain point amount. And, they'll send you coupons for 10% off. While they can be not the best store in the world, I do like their rewards program (and they price match, so you can get a sale price and points).

We like their rewards program too!! I hadn't thought about getting games there. I'll have to check it out.

Just a thought: the Wii Play game comes with a controller, so for the price of a game, you get a controller. :thumbsup2 It has stuff like a shooting gallery, fishing, a tank shooting thing, matching game, well you can preview it on Nintendo. The Wii is bound to be a big hit for your entire family, so I wouldn't hesitate to get one. :woohoo: I've had mine since the first year they were out and we still love to play it! Have fun!:dance3:

the Disney Think Fast game is fun. And we have a dance game, we bought the dance pads that went with the dance game.

And animal crossing city folk. I like the Wild world for DS better but the kids like the city folk

Rachel wants the Disney Think Fast and TSM games. I found a bundle at Target online with 2 controllers and 2 nunchucks with sports and resort. I also can save 5% if I use my red card. I think I may go with that one (I'll be able to keep it a secret since it will be delivered during the day when no one else is home) :)
