She just got ahold of it while I was here in the disland and she colored ALL over her new pants. Will anything get this out??? TIA??!!!!:scared1:

Depends on how deep the stain is. Sometimes hairspray works, sometimes it doesn't, it's the same way with rubbing alcohol. I haven't tried it on a marker stain, but you could mix baking soda with a little to water to make a paste. That's usually works for food stains.

Hope that helps!

Sharpie stains come out really well with vodka. I've heard Purell works well too.

How do I remove a permanent marker stain?"The successful stain removal of ink stains differs from case to case because of the many types of fabrics, colors, inks and time elapsed before stain removal. We cannot guarantee stain removal since many variables can be involved. Testing first is always recommended as well as following both the stain remover and clothing manufacturer's instructions. Following these steps should result in partial or complete removal.

General Rules:

1) Treat stains as soon as possible. Fresh stains can be removed more easily than old ones.

2) Check manufacturer's labels as to fabric content and any special instructions

3) Always test stain removal solution first on a hidden part of the article or on swatch of fabric taken from seam allowance to insure no color loss or damage will occur.

4) Where possible, lay stained article face down on paper towels or clean white cloth and apply stain removal solution to underside of stain so that stain can be removed from the surface instead of pushing it through the fabric. Replace towels or cloth as they absorb stain to prevent stain transfer.

5) If enlisting the aid of a professional laundry or dry cleaner, be sure to indicate what the stain is and the type of fabric.

6) Do not iron stained garments or put in dryer as this may set stain.

* Also try AMODEX STAIN REMOVER for permanent ink: Amodex Products, P.O. Box 3332, Bridgeport, CT 06605, Phone:(203) 335-1255 or go to www.amodexink.com

Thanks. Do I just spray the hairspray on and scrub?

Yup, like I said it may not work on Sharpie marks though, I just don't want you to get disappointed. I've had it work on kids markers (that didn't say "washable"), but it didn't work on acryllic paint.

:scared1:
Thanks guys. I tried the purell and hairspray since that is what I had. The hairspray worked on the real light areas, and the purell worked slightly better. But I still think she ruined the pants. Oh well, there is worse things she could have colored on (like the couch)>

Ahhhh! Sharipie markers are the bane of my existance!

Not really, but 2 of my children 'found' one in their room during a nap and 'decorated' :scared1: the walls, carpet, drapes, blinds, beds, sheets, dresser, lightswitch plates, doors and themselves before I got in there and found it.:scared:

I couldn't get too mad. I had somehow left one in the room. But it really burns up my DH everytime he goes in.

Luckily, we haven't lived in the house that long and hadn't decorated the room in anyway yet.

Well...I guess you can run to the store, buy some dye & just change the color!:thumbsup2

DD coloured on a shirt with a sharpie, and I used spray and wash on it right away, and really scrubbed it in with my finger nail. It took it right out, but it was literally seconds after she did it. We also used toothpaste to take sharpie off the walls and kitchen table (don't ask:headache: ) Both the spray and wash and the toothpaste very slightly faded the surrounding area, but totally removed the sharpie.

Might be a long shot, but have you tried Shout Wipes, I've gotten food coloring out with them several hours after I got it on stuff

I totally feel your pain- somehow there is a lovely piece of artwork on my white carpet created with a blue perm. marker :confused3

If the pants are a light color you might try acetone. You can get it from beauty supply stores as it is used to take of acrylic nails. It might take the color out, but would be worth a shot.

You can try nail polish remover. I'm not sure if it would damage the fabric, but I have used it to remove premanent marker off my hardwood floors.

So....since this is such an issue...can someone tell Sharpie to stop placing these markers in the KidCot spots? They can sponsor it without ruining everyone's clothes. This just makes me annoyed wiht Sharpie..I wouldn't call it positive advertising. It makes the Kidcot spots pretty useless for younger children. My three year old ruine a pair of pants at the Canada pavilion because of them!

I swear by Oxy Clean...the powdered kind. Take the scoop and put a good amount over the stain and then add super hot water to it, making a thick paste. The hotter the water the better. The pants should be fairly wet once the paste is "set," but I also take an old hand towel or wash cloth and add water to that, too so the item doesn't dry. Let it sit for several hours (I usually leave it overnight) and then run it through the wash. If when you take it out of the washer it is still stained, repeat the process.

I have gotten the worst stains out of all kinds of things with this solution. I have found it to be very color safe, too. Good luck!

I have a bottle of stuff called "Ink Away" it's by Goo Gone.

It's a tiny bottle, only 2 ounces. It shows a permanent marker on the front of the bottle (along with a ball point pen and a fountain pen). I just tested it.. it tore up the ink from the cloth. The ink just scattered...! Now, the ink had not set in. It was just a quick test.

I have used this on other types of non-washable marker and pen marks and it has worked really well. I did make the mistake of using it on a wall. If you look at the wall at a certain angle, you can see it made some marks in the paint. I don't mind too much as it was in the kids playroom. My twins got ahold of a felt tip marker when they were 2.5 and my house was brand new. :sad2: oh well!! It has saved my kitchen table numerous times. :thumbsup2

How about Lestoil? It is a house cleaning product, it can be used on clothes, and I have had some success with it.

Worked in Marketing Product Development for Sanford who makes Sharpie for years. Try the amodex if you really want it out. Unfortunately permanant means permanant. You should see some of the pictures people would send in of their kids who had drawn all over themselves with one, and they would have to wait for it to wear off. Actually that is why I am afraid of bringing them to the parks. I will have to look and see if I have retractables or not.
