Totally dumbfounded WDW is cheaper...

We canceled our October trip to WDW due to airfare costs, however the trip itself would have been less expensive then DLR. We were staying in a value for 6 nights 7 days with free dining and base tickets for $1300. We are now staying at PPH for 4 nights with park hoppers and NO dining for $1060. Had it not been for the high airfare costs from PDX we would have had much more for our money at WDW then DLR. Hopefully we can return to WDW next year with better airfare prices.

Wow that's funny. I have stayed at both the POR and Candy Cane Inn and I wouldn't say that the Candy Cane Inn is better. I don't remember a lake where you can get a boat ride to downtown disney, a restaurant on site or a nice big disney store were you can buy your souv's to bring home.
It's been a couple years since the stay at Candy Cane Inn but, I don't think they have changed that much.

Definitely different strokes.

- Did the 20 min. boatride to DTD (after taking the 25 min. bus from MK to POR). It was nice. But if i wanted to go to a mall (which i normally don't ), I prefer the 2 min. walk from DL.

- I only ate bfast at the POR restaurant (& only eat the free bfast at CCI). I've done the DDP at WDW...& liked it, but I've decided I like better the ability to graze at the parks & not have to plan our day around meals like we did with the DDP at WDW.

- A "souvy" shop store is notch below a Bippity Boppity store on hound's list of "must have's" for a hotel.

(Now if POR had a corny dog cart it would jump up the list though. )

As you can see from my ticker we're 30 days from WDW! I'm super excited ~ we'll be there 10 nights @ POP, Free Dining!! & 8 (9 days possibly for DS & my Mom ~ their flight gets in early) days in the parks (we won't be hopping).

DS is flying for $10 ~ thanks to my mom, she had enough Delta Skymiles for the 2 of them. DD & I are flying Delta (non-stop) for $299 RT each.

Our hotel (9 nights) & 1 day tix ~ is $1301 - we'll add days to our pass just before we get there or after we arrive which should cost $166 per adult & $144 per kid. My mom and I are splitting the hotel cost cause kids stay free.

We'll be using DME (I'm use to paying $40-50 to get from LGB to the DLR area) to get from MCO to our resort and Disney busses to get around.

But before all this a quick get away to DLR is coming up soon ~ we'll spend one of our nights (3 total) at the GCH

Forgive me because I haven't read all the posts but WDW is sometimes cheaper up front because they give you more days but you end up having to pay for eats, souvenirs, and etc... over the course of those extra days. Their not dumb down there in Florida. The more days you stay the more you spend with them. A typical DL vacation is alot fewer days.

You can see most everything at DLR in 2 says wheras 7 at WDW still means skipping some things...

We're spending 5 days and nights at DLR at the end of this month and we'll be able to relax and not have to worry about those extra morning hours or being there for rope drop.

Then there is the walking - we must have walked 10 miles a day when we were at WDW.

I love both and will continue to visit both, DLR every 2 years or so and WDW each 5.

If there has been a ticket price increase since you booked the package (and I believe there was an increase in August), USE the tickets, THEN upgrade. It's very different from DLR in that respect; at WDW you keep the discount while at DLR you don't. So at WDW, use those tickets, THEN upgrade, unless you *just* booked the package after the price increase.

I agree with Bumber. I would say you need three days to see "most everything" at DLR and that is if you hustle and know your way around and arrive early, etc. Four days would let most people feel like that they had seen "most everything".

Now if one wants to actually see everything they need more than the dozens of trips I have had. Every time I see something new.

I have to agree with you both too. We went for 5 full days with a half day tacked on to each end. And we still didn't see everything. We did some things that we haven't done before, but we still didn't get to others, like Billy Hill, fireworks, or Fantasmic.

And I have to add, I wouldn't skip rope drop everyday but go at least a few times. Those first few hours are the best.

Yes we booked back in early April b4 the increase so we'd be wise to use our 1st day and upgrade from there.
