So I booked my rooms at the Wilderness Lodge for the first week of February and then went to make airline arrangements. That was a mistake. Initially I got a great fare $1700 for the four of us but silly me not knowing anything about how much it would actually cost to fly to Orlando thought I would wait a bit and search out some better fares over the next few weeks. HUGE mistake! That fare disappeared within 24 hours and for each day I waited it seemed the fares jumped $200.
By yesterday a despondent me was looking at shelling out $2400. Meanwhile they were announcing seat sales everywhere ending 31 January (we were originally flying out 1 Feb). DH and I looked at each other and kept saying if only we had known we would have made out reservations for a week earlier.
This morning as I mournfully picked up the phone to book our now comparatively expensive airfare it occurred to my dull little brain that I COULD change the hotel reservation.
DUH! So now I have tickets for $1500. Our hotel reservation has been changed. All our ADRs rebooked. It took less than a half hour to do all this and I saved about $900.
Im so happy. I was so disappointed in having let that initial airfare offer go.
Now were going a week earlier
and I only have to listen to the kids ask when we are going for a month (this is a Christmas gift so they won't know about until then) rather than 6 weeks.
