I'm hoping someone can help me. I've been looking at the map of AKL and I realize that there's only 1 bus stop??? Has anyone actually had a room at the end and had to do that walk? How bad is it? I'm trying to figure out where I want to be and convenience definitely is a factor! I'd dread having to walk a mile from the bus stop just to get back to my room! Any recommendations are appreciated! Thanks!

Yes it is huge, yes there is only the one bus stop. We had my mom on a trip, 84 and needing a wheelchair in the parks, and it was a huge trek. They had at first placed us in a deluxe room at the very end (which seems the only place there were deluxe rooms). Mind you, this room was great with a HUGE balcony, but we asked to be moved. We were then in a room on the main atrium, 5202??? I would suggest this as very convienient, since you pretty much have to go through the lobby to get to the elevators anyway and to the bus stop. If you are getting a savannah view these rooms off the atrium are your best bet. We faced the Sunset? savannah, it had giraffe, cranes, impala, ostrich, Ankole cattle. Seems lots of folks request the main, but this was great. But returning to this hotel at the end of the day is peaceful, you will feel refreshed just entering the lobby.

Enjoy,
Carla

It is pretty much the same way at most of the deluxe resorts, however.

But, hey you're on safari, right? :-)

We were in a room in the 'pod' farthest from the Bus Stop on the Kudu Trail facing ARusha Rock. The view was great, but the walk was noticeable. Since we had been upgraded to Savannah view I certainly wasn't going to ask to be moved, but if I had paid full price I certainly would have.

In terms of time it wasn't that far to walk (5 minutes or so), but if I had had a little one in a stroller or someone in a wheelchair, or basically anyone who wasn't a big walker with me it would have been annoying.

There are a number of viewing areas with rocking chairs, and displays of African collectables, etc along the way so there was some 'entertainment value' as you went.

Eeyore0062 is correct -- the GF has one bus stop, the BW has one bus stop, the YC has one bus stop, the BC has one bus stop, the Poly has one bus stop, the Contemp has one bus stop, the WL has one bus stop, and the AKL has one bus stop. I never really thought about that before. But I have stayed in both sides of the AKL and haven't found the walk to and from the bus stop any different than all the other resorts that I have stayed in. WDW is a very large parcel of land. My feet are hurting me right now just thinking about it. ;)
