Total lunar eclipse Aug 28th

Wow! Thanks for the heads up! :thumbsup2 The last time there was total lunar eclipse viewable from North America - we were in Epoct! It was an amazing night. We walked around World Showcase watching the eclipse well after the park had closed. Here are a few shots of that eclipse - not great, but you get the idea...

Hopefully, some of you will get some good shots of this total lunar eclipse!

P.S. Here's another NASA eclipse link...

August 28th Total Lunar Eclipse

So this will be tonight, wow, I might just have to set the alarm and go out to see it. I sure wish DFiance was off tonight I would have driven to the beach and laid out to watch it without all the light pollution here.

Hmm, 5:52 am. I don't have anything to do tomorrow other than pack up for a move. Might be a good time to test out my new tripod...

We live in a three story building, I'm trying to think of a way to get to the roof...lol. It's flat and would be a great place to watch from.

It's been awhile since I've seen once of these, how long does it take to go through the phases in the photos posted above?

On the east coast it says it will go from 5:52 until 7:22 am. doubt I make it for the whole thing...

Yeah, that's a good call. I suppose if I was really into it, I could also get some good sunrise shots. I'm willing to bet I set the alarm and then ignore it! Haha

next one we see is in feb 28th i think and if i am not mistaken i think its supposed to be sometime around 7 at night think i will wait for that one myself

thanks for the heads-up, I've paid no attention to the news for the last few days so had no idea!

Our weather forecast is calling for partly cloudy at 5 am, clear by 6. The total eclipse will be visible here from 4:50 to 6:20. I'm just wonderng what some of you might recommend for camera settings - I've never shot the moon before.

I cant offer any real help with that have been playing with my s3 with the f-stop set at 8.o but I have been unable to get a pic that I love but i keep trying i think the moon is my enemy and I will only be able to truelly beat it if i upgrade to a dslr

Well, it is hazy here, so no way to get a decent shot. :sad2: I hope somebody out there is getting some good ones.

Total cloud cover here. I got up this morning and saw that the eclipse was starting. Went back in to set my camera on the tripod, drank a cup of coffee, then went back outside. No moon!!!!!! Total cloud cover!!! Just figures, my day off, could have stayed in bed, but got up to grab some pics, no moon:sad2: .

Luckily, I was off today, so I was able to play around with a gazillion diff. exposures; I've never been able to get a decent moon shot. Here are my two best shots, taken with a Canon S3 IS, full optical zoom. Don't know if I should have tried adding digital zoom?? Anyway, I'm sure those of you with digital SLRs will have better shots. The only editing I did was cropping.

Amazing shot! That's what it looks like here, but LOL I couldn't capture it like that. Mind if I save yours? Great work!

Would love to know details of how you captured it soooo well. Nicely done.

Great shots Amy! I got up and realized that the moon was way too down on the horizon for me to get a decent shot. Couldn't justify waking up DD to get her to the beach with me. I don't think it would have been a good shot from there either. You did a great job! I don't think that digital zoom would have done anything more than what your cropped pic shows, so it is good you didn't go with that. It can be good sometimes, but usually, it is disasterous to the pics.

I give you two :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 !

Amy

You got some great shots girl:thumbsup2 !!!! I just wish I had the same opportunity, dang clouds.

Thanks for the kind words! Other than having 2 of the 50+ shots I took this morning turn out so well, my biggest accomplishment was finding all my Canon S3 buttons in the dark!:lmao: I used manual mode so I could adjust shutter and aperture since I had no idea which combination would work the best, found the manual focus button so I could set that to infinity, even got the tripod set up, all in the dark.

Anyway, lest anyone think I'm some great photographer (in my dreams!), here's the shot that had the best exposure (at least I think so), but it came out blurry. It was a 15 sec exposure and I used a tripod, so I don't know why it blurred; if it had been sharp, this would have been a great shot!

Amy, I hate when that happens, but it happens. You still got some great shots and I'm sure you learned a thing or two. "Try not to dwell on the one that got away". That is one lesson I've learned from fishing and have used in my photography hobby as well!

You did great!

Andy
