ToT Walk-through Without Riding?

I do most of the rides, but definitely not the freefall drops. I've heard that the decorations, sets, and theming for the queue are amazing. I would love to see the inside, but I will not be riding. Does anyone know if this is allowed? If I would be permitted to walk through and then walk back out, or through a separate exit?

Yep. No problem. When you reach the point in the boiler room where the CM sent people to the elevators, just tell them you choose not to ride. They will send you to the exit. Fair warning: you take a (regular) elevator, which opens to the area with the ride photos, just before the gift shop.

Lots of people chicken out. Before you're told a row to board you'll tell the CM you don't want to ride. They'll show you where to go, then it's the best part for those that chicken out.......they have to get on an elevator to go to the exit.

It's easy and the CMs are use to it. But you won't just turn around and walk back out.

That's good to know. My DH & DD always ride it. I rode it once a very long time ago, stayed sick for about an hour afterwards. So I won't ride it again, but it'd be nice to walk thru with them.

Hm...like they can't have stairs for us "chickens" (for the record, I love rides-adult rides, too- simply don't care for the feeling of freefall...and just because you don't like it doesn't make you a chicken)? Has to be an elevator? That I will not trust until I make it down in one piece. Very funny, Disney.
But thank you both for your info :)

Every ride will allow you to exit before boarding. They cannot and will not force you to get on a ride if you choose not to. It is affectionately referred to as a "Chicken Exit' but you can do this at any ride, thrilling/scary or not.

I wasn't calling you a chicken. You know already you don't want to ride and will opt out. Those that plan to ride, then get worked up and then decide to "chicken out" are the ones I'm referring to:thumbsup2

Useful information! I assumed they couldn't *force* you to ride anything, but I didn't know if there was a pre-planned "out", or if it was frowned upon and would cause a problem.

They absolutely DO have a staircase** at ToT, but they don't generally use it for "non-riding" guests.

**It's the fire exit and work stairs. I've walked down from the higher levels several times when the attraction shut down due to a mechanical error.
The staircase is enclosed and its doorway is right next to the elevators.

Lol, hey, some rides at *other* theme parks that I've been near as the carts zoom past are sometimes much faster and more intimidating than when you're in line, psyching yourself up for it. At least I know my limits :earboy2: Not to mention I've no desire to make a mess that some poor Cast Member will be forced to clean up (that almost happened...to all 3 people in my group when we rode Mission Space: Orange-Never again!)

Hm...even more useful, still. I may beg them to let me take the stairs. I don't trust any elevator in that particular building. "We'll send her down the 'chicken elevator'-haha! Just kidding! That one drops, too!"

Nope. It is a totally normal and common occurrence. Some rides have a slightly better way out than others, but any CM will happily and politely direct you to the appropriate exit and where you can meet your party if others are riding.

It is more difficult at the water parks where you have to just "excuse, pardon" your way back down the stairs, the o'l "walk of shame" as it is called. People do it all the time though.

(that almost happened...to all 3 people in my group when we rode Mission Space: Orange-Never again!)

That's why Mission: SPACE has those air-sick bags. It's funny because they also have them on Green Team side, which really psyches some people out.

Oh gosh, I've seen those people at water parks, too! The looks of shame on their faces...(though for me personally, I don't find anything shameful about rethinking something and knowing your limits :)

And that's why people mention it in TOT threads, so you're prepared for the elevator and don't think they are tricking you. :)

Yes! We rode green & loved it, so thought orange would be no big deal. And all three of us just about laid down outside of the ride, got yelled at to not obstruct the hallway...and sat for quite some time, wasting much Food & Wine time. What an awful time to be sick!

I'm one of those chicken outers. It happens. Still scared from when I was nine. Keep trying, never works out. Definitely great line scenery! There's a side elevator someone can take you to the exit in.

It is a regular elevator and the Cast Members in there are really nice. I had to do this for several years after I broke my neck and this was the one attraction I looked forward to the most even though I didn't "drop". The effects are amazing. And, if you are taking the "alternate exit", pay attention to the detail in the exit. It's just as good as the drop area. You still feel like you are in the hotel. It's amazing how wonderful taking that exit is. Everyone should just opt out once to experience how Disney thinks about all their guests.

Why would you not trust them? What if one had a medical condition that prevented them from riding but they wanted to walk through with their family? Do you think Disney would say haha were going to make them ride anyway, lawsuits be damned?

...only joking. I know they wouldn't *actually* do that. And thanks, Disnut! Great to know, will have my camera ready!
