just seen on the news a passenger plane has skidded and is on fire, 200 people on it. :sad2:

Looks bad, really bad :(

Hope passengers & crew managed to get out via emergency slides.

243 Reported on board plus crew on top, local policeman on the radio said people were being picked up by motorists so it may be difficult to get figures on how many hurt or worse.

Plane skidded off the runway in a heavy thunder/rain storm. It was an A340 Air France on a daily flight from Charles de Gaullle to Toronto. An expert saying that the plane appeared intact and this gives good hope on a good deal surviving- Lets hope so.

They do not have much information on casualties.

If you pray, pray for them

bbc news 24 have just reported that 291 passengers/crew were on board and that ALL of them are beleived to have survived. sincerley hope thats the case :grouphug:

I hope everyone is okay. They must have been so scared. It looks so close to the motorway.

5 Live still reporting 243 on a 252 Config plane. Only number that counts is the full evac of the plane.

What a great sentiment Cochise - they'll be in my prayers for sure.
We're off to L.A. a week tomorrow and my poor DH hates flying at the best of times!!!

News over here has reported that all survived. Thank goodness!

The pictures of the crash site are terrible, and it is amazing that anyone survived at all. But it now seems as if everyone got off the plane, with just a few passengers receiving minor injuries. That's wonderful and incredible!

Reminds me that I should pay a it more attention to the on-board safety spiel when I fly - although it is extremely unlikely that I'll ever be involved in a plane crash, if I am, knowing where my nearest exit is could mean a life or death difference to how quickly I can get out of the plane.

Regards

Rob

Diana,

This should really reduce someones fear of flying to me, the fact that the fuselage remained intact after should a sudden large impact on the bank and the sheer professionalism of the flight crew to evac the plane so well.
Proves the quality of the plane build 100%

Best to wait for the NTSB (or equivilant in Canada if it is different)investigation before presuming what happened. It will probably centre on the decision to land and whether it was forced to land by circumstances, as people have pointed to a lightening strike etc
