We are planning to visit Tornoto/ Niagara Falls in April 07 and wondering if a drive to Disneyworld is a good way to see the East Coast of the US? How long would one need to do a nice drive down there and also get to see the sights along the way. Would love to hear from an locals that have done the drive and likely itineraries. Grateful for any advice. :teeth:

We have driven from Toronto to Disney and it is about a 22 to 24 hour drive depending which highway you choose.

A scenic route along the US coast though is out of the way. I think it is at least 8 to 10 hours from TO to Maine and then I have no idea how long from there to Disney.

If you were not going to Niagria Falls, I would have suggested taking Interstate 75. I know people say there are a lot of trucks on that route, but my family thinks it's the best way with a lot of exits for eating, sleeping & getting gas.

If you drive direct from TO to WDW, you'll be driving mainly through the middle of North America, and not much along the coastline.

As one of the earlier posters advised, you can drive from TO to the Atlantic Ocean, and then go south to WDW. But there is a few drawbacks:

1) it's a longer drive - but longer is a relative term (as your starting point is Australia, which is already a long way away)

2) the drive south along the Eastern seaboard (usually the route is I-95) does not allow for many views of the water. You may get a view of New York City (as long as you don't take any of the ring roads around NYC), but view of the others cities are minimal (only notable exception is Baltimore, plus a short view of Washington, DC).

For more direct routes between TO and WDW, the two main alternatives are 401 to I-75, and I-90,79,77,26,95 (the I-90.79,77,26,95 route being the quickest from the GTA). My preferred route is I-90/79/77/26/95 as the drive is easy, plus lots of nice scenery is West Virginia

If you have the time to stop while driving down the East Coast to visit cities such as NYC, Washington,I-95 is a good route.

Thanks. I was thinking of maybe taking a week or so to drive down from Niagara and stop off along the way and whatever would be a nice place to visit. We are not in a hurry by any means, I love driving in the USA but have only done so on the west coast. I thought driving down might be nice rather than taking internal flights, with all the security and time delay issues. Just wondering if there are any 'must sees' on the way to florida.
