I'm having a torn meniscus repaired on October 30th and then having a total hip replacement on December 9th. Am I nuts or would you do it too? We have met our deductible for the year and I figured I'd just go for it. I'll miss a ton of work, but oh well.

I'll be here a lot I'm sure! :lmao:

I think that if you need to have them done, then you should do it. My DSis needs to have both hips replaced as well as a shoulder replaced, and I know what kind of pain she's been in for so long, and she really can't wait to get relief from that pain. At this point, her shoulder is the worst and causing the most impact on her quality of life, so she's having her shoulder done in early November.

Best wishes to you on your surgeries.

Is the same surgeon doing both procedures? If he/she thinks the timing is okay, then go for it. Might be good to get the recovery and rehab done all at once. Are they on the same side of your body? It all depends how long recovery from the knee surgery will be. Good luck!!

Do you have a choice? I mean of course you have a choice but how bad is your knee and hip? Are you mobile and able to control your pain? Can't go by me cause I waited to have a spinal fusion way beyond the point that I should have. I would get a second and possibly a third opinion before having any surgery.

As long as the healing process of the knee won't interfere with the hip replacement, it should be O.K.

You're mighty brave to face both in such a short amount of time. :) Good luck! I hope both surgeries go very well for you. :)

I had a hip replacement 3/25...i was walking with a walker on 3/26.
A week later I was walking with a cane.

In middle of APril I was walking on my own.

please do it...I put it off for 5 years...I can now go to the gym again and actually do eliptical..
I was so bad in the end I walked like a penguin..
don't be me....do it now!!

btw where you getting surgery done...see you live in long island
GO to hospital special surgery.

rated #1 in country and have 0.2 rate of staff infection

I was very satisfied there
(well except for hospital food) but that is minor

It says she lives in Maine.

I too am doing the walk of the Penguin! I have put the hip off for 12 years.......... I'm finally just ready to be DONE!

Yes, the same surgeon is doing both- he feels comfortable doing them in such a short time.

They are on opposite sides. Left hip- right knee. Doc says most likely the knee went because I am favoring the hip- giving me a funny gait. AKA the Penguin walk.

The knee is out patient- done in the surgi-center at my doc's office. The Total Hip is of course inpatient.

I am looking forward to going for a walk in the spring..... something I have not been able to do for a couple of years...........

You will be walking quicker than you think...

I did breast cancer walk..did 12 minute miles... and this is 6 months from date of operation.

You will be so happy you did this. As with me,,,you had to wait until it was just right for you and nobody could tell you different.

Good LUck...if you want to ask me anything pm me will be happy to answer anything you might want to know.

one tip: get shoes you can slip into or buy those curly shoe laces that don't have to be tied...was a big help to me

And thanks Jessica R for pointing out my error....my mistake looked at you instead ..guess were all human.....seems mermaid didn't mind so much
