Torchwood Series 1 Discussion Thread

Nothing to report here, as I didn't get to watch it. As far as I know it's still recorded on my Sky+ box ready to be watched tonight.

In other news, a Doctor Who soundtrack is to be released. See here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/doctorwho/news/cult/news/drwho/2006/11/06/37664.shtml

I really want that soundtrack, along with the little mermaid soundtrack. Thanks to Kingdom Hearts 2 "Under the Sea" is stuck in my head, and I think the only cure is to listen to it so many times as possible so I get bored of it.

I think the soundtrack will be good too, and I look forward to having the Doctor Who theme on my Ipod. I also hope the episode is good too; I hear it's very good. :)

Interesting how Captain Jack can be shot through the forehead and then heal within a few seconds, yet the cut he received on the top lip after being punched stayed right through to the end of the episode.

Well, I just got through the episode. I thought that was really good, and it had me jumping from time to time (e.g. when the cyberwoman appears out of nowhere ~ I am terrible at these things. I see them coming but I just don't think about it when the atmosphere eases slighty!!).

Gwen seeing the cyberwomen in the corrider while trying to hide was classic! :rotfl: Also, Gwen and Owen in the cupboard!! :rotfl2: Thank godness they got out quick! ;) I thought seeing the incomplete cyberman was scary, particualary becuase he had a cyber-eye.

Disappointed with the ending. I thought they could either go with a Happily ever after ending, or a Spooks style ending where Yanto gets killed off (they seem to be spooks like as of late. Anyone could get killed off at any time! :scared1: ).

Next weeks looks good

I was wondering that when I watched it too. Over-dramtic Jack.. :thumbsup2

Did anyone else think that the whole Jack and Yanto kiss was because of the whole energy transfer thingy that we saw at the end of Series one? I did; perhaps thats one of the reasons why he didn't die (a cyber-choking-and-toss-across-the-room is enough to kill anyone right? ).

I'll finish with a thought. Where is Emporer Dalek? We haven't seen him in a while.. :confused3 I hope he isn't preparing troops for battle.. :teeth:

Just watched my recording. Great episode but I had to leave the room at one point as I was a bit jumpy!!!

I jumped once. As I said, I am terrible! When you know somethings coming it's even worse!! :rotfl2:

It's the Squid from POTC2 all over again! :rotfl:

Ah now, I haven't seen POTC yet - waiting for the DVD! pirate: I will now be waiting for a squid!!!

Just watched Cyberwoman last night, had a busy few days. What a great episode! I loved the fact that it was a bit more like Doctor Who, but scarier than usual. I am with the two of you - I jumped at least once!

I thought the kiss must be something to do with transferring energy too, but you know our Captain Jack - maybe it was just his version of mouth to mouth ;)

I have been wondering where Emperor Dalek is too :confused3 Come back soon :goodvibes

Leela

Also........I am sure the Cybermen will make another appearance somewhere else. How do you think they will have kept alive? Do you think there will be Cyberwomen again?

Quite probably. There are more Cyberpeople on earth, such as the ones that got converted in the non-parrell Doctor Who World (which for conveince sakes I am just going to call "D.W. World-1" from hence forth) so haven't been sucked up into the void, for example The ex-head of Torchwood 1 (I forget her name, that's how long ago the finale was!!).

Too true Leela.. :lmao:

So, all those Cybermen and Daleks can all come flooding back through the time whatever whenever the writer's so wish!! :teeth:

Very True. All the writers have to do is "Invent" a way for the old Daleks and Cybers to come through the Void into DW World-1 if they really get bored. Mind you, with the Dalek Supreme that got away at the end of the Doctor Who series finale you could expect Daleks to re-establish themselves at any one point in time.

It would be funny if they "Invented" a way to bring back the Daleks from the Series 1 finale into Torchwood. Then they would be all "Didn't we exterminate him?" to Jack! :rotfl:

It might be fun to experiment with Jack's immortality factor. Does he still feel pain if he gets hurt? If not, just think of the training oppurtunites that can be invovled! It's not everyday that you can have an actual human target to shoot! :teeth:

I suspect we are going to be in the minority here but we have felt Torchwood has gone down hill since the opeing double episiode. I had high hopes with the cyberwoman but was very disapointed.

I think the main negative for me is that is sort of feels amateurish. :confused3 But I have still enjoyed it, not immensely so, but well enough.

Matt, I think Jack must feel pain with the way he reacted to the 'shocks' from the Cyberwoman.

Maybe it is just a case of over-acting.. :lmao:

My brother hated Torchwood as well, but still watches the show anyway as he is a major Dr Who fan and so doesn't want to miss any continuity references. I love the show as it allows them to be in the adult frame of mind instead of pretending to be a lot younger to watch the show. :)

This episode was the best for me as it was bringing back some Who into the show, which is always a good idea. :) I am sorry that you felt disappointed by Torchwood Mikki, but I love it and I am going to watch it all. :teeth: If there was an episode to be disappointed in it would have to have been the second episode. That kinda went too far for me I think.. :(

As my brother says, What do expect when Russell T Davies is only doing 2 episodes?

I have to agree with you. Having been a Whovian since November 1963 I'd had high hopes of an excellent spin off. Trying to bring in a little sex and innuendo plus a dash of swearing to "appeal" to the "adult" audience borders on the amateurish and immature to me. The so called "gay" kisses put in to be a bit risqué (sp?) I feel is a bit cheap and the innuendo when Owen and Gwen were hiding from the Cyberwoman, of what Owen had down his trousers....well let's just say, if I could perform whilst being chased by a Cyberwoman, then quite frankly I'd be very pleased. ;) Also, we call them cybermen for ease - what would a Cyber race want with breasts? After all, they only need the brain for an upgrade. Granted, she was a "panic" upgrade created to face the Daleks, but it's amazing how, in that panic, that the Cybermen were able to completely re-design the Cyber exo-skeleton.

Also, wouldn't it be nice to see the "original" light-hearted Captain Jack character from Dr. Who instead more morbid alter-ego of this series.

Having said all that, I am still enjoying the series, although, if I were to miss an episode it wouldn't be the end of the world, as opposed to Dr.Who where it's like the universe ending. :lmao:

A quick question: anybody know what the audience figures now are?

"Also, wouldn't it be nice to see the "original" light-hearted Captain Jack character from Dr. Who instead more morbid alter-ego of this series."

I have thought this - he doesn't seem quite right as this 'morbid' character as you put it!! I do think that the sexual 'add ons' don't seem to fit really. But in the end it is a good adventure, I would just rather it had that touch of fun.

To let you know John Barrowmen is on Johnathon Ross tonight. :)

Do not know if this has been posted anywhere, but they are back! Daleks in Eps 4/5 next year set in 1930's New York, they have traveled back in time!

Speaking of returning Daleks WB Emporer Dalek. :)

Was going to bump this up for tonight but it appears I have been beaten to it. :)

Thought last nights episode was a very good one - plenty of body count and moral problems. A good story :thumbsup2
