Topsiders Dinner Buffet
Review by Pete Werner, Webmaster

Dinner Menu offered Sunday-Thursday from 7:30pm to 9:30pm

By popular demand, the Disney Magic has added an additional option for dinner service on the 7 day cruise. Guests now have the option of dining at Topsiders in place of the restaurant on their normal dining rotation on any night (except the first and last nights of the cruise). Previously, Topsiders only served buffet breakfast and lunches.

As you enter the restaurant, you immediately notice that the restaurant assumes a different look and feel from it's daytime persona. The tables have linen tablecloths and napkins, and are set in a manner consistent with all other restaurants on board the ship. Unfortunately, that is where the similarities end. Topsiders is long known for it's mediocre buffets and the dinner offerings add to that heritage. You are able to select your appetizers from the buffet line, and a server will bring your main course to the table. While the meals are presented with some flair, the sirloin steak had all the appeal of a frozen steak from your local grocery store. The garlic roasted beef tenderloin was very dry, and as we found out, the restaurant was not equipped with steak knives. The pasta dish would have been good, if wasn't for the vegetables in the marinara sauce. The chicken dish was good, and well prepared, but one in four is not a very good ratio. We fared somewhat better with the appetizers, where the Caribbean Gumbo was a tasty and unique dish.

In fairness to the cruise line, the dining menu is a constant state of flux, and improvements are constantly being made. Over the course of 6 months, we have sailed the 7 day itinerary 3 times and the food has improved dramatically each time. With time, we feel that Topsiders Dinner Buffet will follow in that tradition, and become an excellent addition to the offerings on the 7 day itinerary. Until then, however, we advise that you manage your expectations when dining at Topsiders, especially for dinner
