Topsider's a buffet at dinner?

For those of you that have cruised recently, did you visit Topsider's instead of your assigned dining room for dinner? I understand that it is all buffet for breakfast and lunch, but that at dinner it is sort of a "partial" buffet - self-serve salad bar but you order the main entree, etc. off the menu and it is served at your table? Is this correct? We're still having, um, family discussions about our dinner options (DH is worried about the dining rooms being too "fancy" for him, ugh). Just trying to be prepared... sigh-

You are correct in your description of Topsiders for dinner....BUT....please try to tell your hubby that the DCL dining rooms are NOT TOO FANCY!!! Quite the contrary....they are relaxed, not stuffy and lots of fun!! Yes they are beautiful in decor, with each one having its own flavor.... but definately not stuffy or fancy!!! Even in Lumiere's the most elegant the feeling is not stuck up at all!!!

My husband and I ate in there several times on our 7 day Eastern. It was exactly the same food as being served in the main restaurants...on theme nights. There was a buffet...just salad and desserts and a waiter took our order at the table for our entree. It was nice for us to go to dinner casually, and we had a romantic little table just the two of us. A note...we did tip that waiter, and therefore, did not tip the waiter in our main dining room as much. Have fun!:sunny:

We ate at topsiders on formal night & loved it. It was very nice with table cloths, our own private table next to a window, the lights were low. I highly recommend at least one dinner at topsiders. We also gave our waiter a great tip since he gave us great service.

Unless you want to eat in a swimsuit, the dining rooms are not "too fancy." First, they are full of kids (even at late dinner), the servers do magic tricks, etc. They are noisy and fun, not at all stuffy or formal.

Topsiders is a decent alternative, but don't rule out the dining rooms till you've tried them.

Our nights were much different than Kcashner described. Like S.C., the table was near a window, the waiters were top notch, and it was a peacful setting. Don't give up the experience of eating at some of the restaurants, but don't feel you will be missing out by choosing TopSiders a night or two. (Just make sure your children see Animator's Palate!)
Happy Cruising to you..:Pinkbounc :bounce:
