I need ideas for doing a baked potato bar for DD's graduation party. What toppings would you like, or do you have any unique ideas? TIA
My daughter's summer swim team has a "potato party" every year and it's a blast! The kids decorate potatoes and there is a winner for each gender/age group. My DD and her friend made the band One Direction from potatoes last year and had a little MP3 player play their songs on a loop. Of course, they won their age group!I need ideas for doing a baked potato bar for DD's graduation party. What toppings would you like, or do you have any unique ideas? TIA
I became addicted to baked potatoes with cheese and baked beans while I was living in the north of England. I doubt anyone here would want it, but I love it. (And it's way better than the tuna and sweetcorn baked potato, another British fave.)
I will say that a curry goes great on a potato, if that's something you're interested in. It's a lot like a chili potato, just with slightly different flavoring.
Bacon, chili, nacho cheese, shredded cheeses, sour cream, chives, onions
Did anyone say gravy?
I'd offer both shredded cheddar and a cheese sauce.
I don't think anyone said sauted mushrooms.
Instead of baked potatoes, you might consider a mashed potato bar. They're quite the rage for wedding receptions, etc. I think the two options would be equally cheap and easy. I've personally done a mashed potato bar, and I've kept the potatoes warm in a big crock pot -- just stir well every 30 minutes. I've seen these served in martini glasses at weddings, but I wouldn't do that for teens. I'd consider either short, fat clear glasses . . . or those short, fat snack cups that Target's been selling with holiday paper tableware lately. You could probably get those in a graduation-theme.

Glad to see I'm not the only one!
I'm a southerner &, while I would love to travel overseas, unfortunately I haven't yet had the opportunity to visit England.
However, there's a local BBQ restaurant where we used to eat frequently. I would a order stuffed baked potato (came w/ the BBQ'd pork topping) & then also order a side of baked beans to add to my potato as well.
(I also like to add baked beans on my hamburgers. And, at Easter, my mom bakes these wonderful little yeast rolls, & I'll cut the roll in half, add a small piece of ham, & then spread some baked beans on the ham - my own little yummy ham & baked bean slider! I only do this when I'm around my immediate family. LOL!)
