Our three least favorites are,

Biergarten - only because we don't enjoy being crammed elbow to elbow with strangers, sitting with them wouldn't be so bad if you had more personal space

Pecos Bill - Sorry, but we just don't care for the food

OHana (dinner) - just wasn't our thing either, our server was at best ok

All this being said, I agree that it's all about personal preferences, everyone should give it a try and decide for themselves.

I love dining at Disney. No, it's not 5 star gourmet, but it's just part of the fun. We try lots of different places on each trip, but we're getting to the point now that we definitely have our favorites.

However, I do have three places we won't visit again:

1. Mama Melrose. This was a disaster from start to finish. From a long wait for our ADR seating to a snitty waitress (I ended up calling the mgr over on this one) to mediocre food, it was probably the worst TS experience we've had. It was on our ressie that we were celebrating DH's bday that day. I didn't expect much, but I did expect slightly more than DH's dessert being uncermoniously dropped off at the table with a lit candle. Probably wouldn't have bothered me as much if the rest of the meal had been more up to Disney standards;

2. Pizzafari. I don't expect gourmet pizza at Disney, but I can actually handle Pizza Planet. Pizzafari on the other hand, yick. We stick to Flame Tree BBQ for quick service at AK; and

3. Cosmic Ray's. Not that it was really yicky or anything, but there are better CS options.

Wow, you are brave! Italian NYers here (well, part Italian), we're too nervous to even go to Tutto Italia at Epcot or Il Mulino at Swan/Dolphin (and both get good reviews)! Then again, Italian food is not different from what we eat at home, and we like to have some different foods on vacation. Very few Italian restaurants I will eat at on vacation!! Same with Chinese and Japanese restaurants...we eat that food all the time in Brooklyn, and I am even picky where we order from at home!

Funny thing is...I'm also German and Biergarten is a MUST (we love it there)! And I am picky with German food too!

Oh, I hear you. There are only 2 Italian restaurants I will gladly go to & they're both here in NY. I NEVER go to an Italian restaurant other than my two favs, especially out of state, but my mom was with us & she really wanted to try it because she'd heard so many good things. I tried to warn her.

I actually went to Tutto with her on the same trip & we actually liked it. I wouldn't go again, but it wasn't bad. Although, we had ZERO expectations & this was after Mama's, so it didn't take much for us to feel our meal was actually edible.

I've never even attempted "pizza" while at WDW. That would be a travesty!

1. How many of these 'worst' restaurants were the 1st time?

2. How many WDW restaurants have people eaten at?

I think that both of these questions have bearing as to whether or not one considers a restaurant the worst or not, IMHO.

Oh, I hear you. There are only 2 Italian restaurants I will gladly go to & they're both here in NY. I NEVER go to an Italian restaurant other than my two favs, especially out of state, but my mom was with us & she really wanted to try it because she'd heard so many good things. I tried to warn her.

I actually went to Tutto with her on the same trip & we actually liked it. I wouldn't go again, but it wasn't bad. Although, we had ZERO expectations & this was after Mama's, so it didn't take much for us to feel our meal was actually edible.

I've never even attempted "pizza" while at WDW. That would be a travesty!

On our last trip, my older son was 3 and really wanted to eat at Toy Story Pizza Planet! I got the Pizza Planet Chicken Salad because I refused to eat theme park pizza! The salad was actually very good. DH got the veggie pizza. I took a chance and tried a bite, not as bad as I thought it would be, but not something I would order for lunch either! Pizza is something else I am picky about...but I will admit, when we're down south, I do enjoy going to Cici's Pizza Buffet. I find the pizza to be actually decent and my kids love it there. I hate Domino's & Papa John's though!

I'm curious...what are your 2 favorite NYC Italian restaurants?

There was some discussion about this in the early pages of the thread.

For me, my list was more like worst dining experiences. We love dining in the World - I'm one of those who reads Disney food blogs and tries to recreate some recipes at home.

I've been following from the beginning, and made a similar statement, but I don't recall many discussions on it? Hmmm...maybe I'll take a look as I guess I missed that?

I just meant that it had been brought up with *some* discussion, not "many discussions." That's actually why I phrased my original post with my restaurant comments the way I did.

I really think in most cases, it's more like 'worst dining experiences' and not that the restaurants are completely and totally the worst places ever. And I think a lot of people have different expectations - for example, we enjoy Chef Mickey's breakfast. We always have a great time, and it's the way we like to start our time in the World. No, it's not the best food in the world, but we're not really going for the food. It's not for everyone, obviously, but to each his own.

That being said, our experience at MM was soooooo bad that I never recommend the place, and it's going to take a lot for us to ever go back. Truly the worst dining experience we ever had.

Thanks. I totally get what this list is about, but I still think so much of it has to do with one's own dining experiences, especially at Disney. For many people on here, they are classifying these restaurants as the worst places ever, yet they've only eaten there 1x. It's interesting to keep reading through this thread though.

You are so right about dining experiences - we always eat at Mama Melrose, and have never had a problem at all. It's pretty much the only restaurant we'll eat at DHS (do eat at 50s once in awhile).

While the others in my family loved Tony's, and we will eat there again because of that, for me it was terrible. I felt like all I could smell the entire dinner was the calamari. It was so strong, and it seemed like EVERY single table ordered it. The food itself for me was so so.

50's Prime Time would also be on the list. We have only tried it once, but it really wasn't the food it was the antics. For my family it was too over the top for them.

I did not like HDDR either, the food was barely edible for me. Just not what I was expecting but the show was fun.

The reality is that we try things more than once, so we as a family, end up eating somewhere, someone in the party is less than estatic about.

Also, I detest cold food which I find to be the problem w/ some/most of the Disney buffets. Congelled mashed potatoes and gravy, yuck! I also don't eat Disney pizza of anykind.

Seriously! That is exactly what I was going to say. While I've had less than steller dishes at various restaurants, others in my party have enjoyed them and vice versa. I also realize I'm often paying for a total experience, not just food. Plus, I'm not a gourmet by any means. I actually like the pizza just fine! But that ABC Commissary...ugh. Can't eat there. Ever. Ever. Again.

I am a dedicated NY pizza fan, nothin like NY pizza in the WORLD! So we certainly don't expect disney pizza to be spectacular, but we actually liked the flatbread pizzas at mama melroses! Crazy I know. It's definitely not NY pizza, but for us, it worked. What we miss the most while we are in disney is not NY pizza, but NY BAGELS!

My top 3 of the bottom would be:

1. San Angel. I've eaten great Mexican food here in California and in Mexico and this stuff was just plain awful.

2. Whispering Canyon Cafe. Dried out food and the awful entertainment.

3. Yak n Yeti. Although I've read that they have removed the pho from the menu, the memory of how bad it was will stay with me for a long time.

I have been to Disney 5 times and have eaten at least once a day (if not more) on property during all those trips.

For me my bottom 3 is more to do with the experience I had. I would never tell anyone not to do the restaurants I didn't like. But I personally will probably not go back just because the first experience was so sub-par I wouldn't want to lose a spot to a place I love for a second chance.

WCC - The food was ....okay. But for some reason our server decided we weren't worth the effort to even talk to let alone have fun with.

Jiko - this one hurts that I don't like it since the AKV is my second home. But again our server was horrible. The food took forever and when I got my "medium rare" and my aunts "well done" steaks....they were so raw they were cold inside. Which I guess could happen for a medium rare steak but how did that happen to a well done steak? She made it a big deal to have them taken back to be put back on the grill. We ordered drinks...she never brought them. It was just a really horrible experience. The cherry on top being we ordered dessert and after 15min of waiting we flagged her down and she had "forgotten" to enter it. It was the first night of a 2 week stay at our DVC showing it off to some extended family...and well.... not the way we wanted to start it.

ABC Commissary - Food was very... blah?

My top three, which are all based upon my trip in February, which was my first back in about 20 years and my first back as an adult.

1. Chefs de France -- horrible food, I think, by almost any standard, my entree was bland and my Alastian tart bore a frightening resemblence to the one I get frozen in a box at Trader Joe's. Also, the servers were rude. This really made me sad because I rememberd it so fondly from my visits as a child.

2. San Angel Inn -- I like Tex Mex and much more traditional, authentic Mexican, too, and San Angel just serves bad food. My steak had that fake grill taste, like what you taste in hamburgers from Burger King. Everything else just tasted kind of muddled.

3. 50's Prime Time -- Nothing was very good, server was not into her act (although she was efficient) yet I'm glad I tried it just once!
