We are excited to have an 8 day stay booked in a 1-bed at VWL for August. I have requested a top floor, but having looked at the photos of the Villas it looks like all the top floors have dormer windows and closed balconies. Has anyone stayed in these rooms, and are they dark? I would love to hear from anyone who could tell me of their experiences at the VWL. Thanks.

We have stayed on the top floor at the VWL and love the rooms. They are not dark and the balcony is not enclosed like at the Lodge. We like the top floor because it seems to be a little quieter, and more secluded. The ceiling in these rooms are different than the other floors, and adds to the atmosphere of the villa.

Thanks Girlie Goofy. I was worried that they looked dark. I don't suppose you have any pictures?

We had a top floor 1br lockoff but it was a corner unit overlooking the pool, so the floorplan was different from the average 1br at VWL. The main balcony was open, the one off the master was enclosed. It definitely felt like it had more space than the normal 1br there, and it definitely had more windows (3 in the main living area, plus the slider to the balcony). We absolutely loved that room, unfortunately I don't think I have any pics, just video!!

We had a two bedroom top floor unit a few years ago that faced the bus stop and was close to the covered walkway. It had an open balcony and the master bedroom had a really neat cathedral ceiling. Quite striking, actually.

Thanks for everyone's input. I hope we get our request for a top floor now!

We also have stayed several times on the top floor of VWL.....we do like the location....the only thing you may not like is the hallway from the elevator area is not an open atrium like the rest of the floors. This area is an enclosed room for cast members so the hallway does tend to have a more closed in feeling than the floors below since they are all open overlooking the lobby.

I am confused. Just found this on Allears.net

Not all top floor rooms have that "dormer" style balcony.

As you can see in these pictures, there are many top floor rooms with the open balcony look. This one is from the front of the resort:

This is the back of the resort near the quiet pool.

I think there are actually relatively few rooms with the dormer style balcony. I believe most of them are in the corner areas in the front and back of the lodge.

I wouldn't think that it would make or break the trip with either style. Some people hate the closed in balconies because they can't see through the railing. Others like the additional privacy they provide.

Enjoy the trip! :)

We had a 5th floor 1 bedroom over New Years. I had always wanted to try one and finally got my wish. I asked a check in and was given one. I did think the room was a hair darker, maybe it was just the rain we had all week. In fact I think the pictures on all ears are of the exact room we were in, because we had the enclosed balcony. Even though I thought the room was a hair darker, I still liked the vaulted ceilings. Keep in mind that there are very few one bedrooms on the 5th floor, so don't be too disappointed if you don't get one. I wouldn't mind having the 5th floor room again, but it wouldn't "make or break" my vacation. Have an awesome trip!

Edited to add a pick of "our" enclosed balcony view:

ErinC,
I think we had the room next to you on the right! That enclosed balcony was our bedroom and then there was another open balcony beyond that. We noticed we could see the top of the MK fireworks over the lodge (that's what we were relegated to when the kids were little enough to be sound asleep by 8:30--we never got to see fireworks, lol!)

Yeah, you could see the really high MK fireworks at night. In fact, a few nights they were doing trials of the Pirates and Princess party fireworks really late. It didn't bother us, but we did receive a note about it under our door. Probably could have seen more if it wasn't so rainy all week.:)
