Top 5 Thrills at DL

I'm not sure the Fun Wheel really counts as a thrill ride, swinging carts or not. I mean, maybe, but it's on the list when Tower of Terror and BTMRR are not? I'm just not buying that one. Indy is obviously the best anyway!

As for the Matterhorn on the list, I prefer Big Thunder myself. The Matterhorn to me is like eating a boiling hot pot sticker. It probably tastes good but you're in too much pain to really enjoy it.

Exactly - always results in a tylenol or two ....

I'd say Indy, Space, California Screaming, Splash, ToT [sniff]

Yeah, how does Tower of Terror not make the "thrill" attraction? Who wrote this?

If you look at the ride at the Disneyland Resort that has created the most injuries, it is the former Mulholland Madness, currently Goofy's Sky School. A stock Roller coaster (A Mack's Wild Mouse), that Disney modified before DCA opened in 2001. It was shut down only after a couple of months of operation, and modified to try and make it safer. The story is that Disney was focused on ride capacity before DCA opened, and did too many things to the stock roller coaster to create the original issue.

I would also add the Paradise Pier Hotel/Mickey and Friends Parking Structures elevators, it is a Thrill in the morning to finally be able to board one, due to slow loading issues.

Maybe also leaving a hot, overpacked park in the middle of the day.

Did you notice the picture of the Matterhorn sleds was taken when they had the old sleds with just two seats?

I think the "Fun" wheel is terrifying for many, but not really thrilling.
Most thrilling would be Tower of Terror and Screamin', not one over the other as they're both great thrills. Then Space Mountain, Splash Mountain, and probably Indy. I don't consider Matterhorn or Big Thunder to be super thrilling, though both are fun. I do think Big Thunder is probably a more tame ride than Matterhorn, mostly because the train is longer causing a different sensation.

>>At least four people suffered injuries on this ride in February. A 53-year-old woman broke a rib on Feb. 4. A woman suffered a head injury on Feb. 11. And a woman suffered a broken nose and child companion suffered a cut face on Feb. 16. The state of California ordered the ride closed on Feb. 16 and Disney then made improvements to the brakes and safety system.<<

So back in 2001, they actually had a member of Disneyland's First Aid department at the ride before the changes were made.

A lot of it had to do with the moving cars on the loading platform and trying to get more cars to cycle through per hour to keep waits down. It has since been modified multiple times, and has resulted in a lower capacity per hour, plus things like "creep" and full stop modes. Currently it is running quite safely, and I wouldn't have any worries riding it.

Just an interesting piece of history and one of many issues during the early years of the second park, which didn't help Disney's image.

Another interesting story, this time dealing with the building of the Matterhorn Bobsleds, which is the first modern steel tubular roller coaster.

Bob Gurr was the first person to ride it back in 1959 during construction, but since the ride wasn't completed, they used hay bales to stop the ride at the bottom, where the ponds are. So that had to be a BIG thrill ;)

I wouldn't count the Funwheel as a thrill ride. I would add ToT. Love BTMRR but not sure it's thrilling persay.

Yikes, that's a thrill alright.
