Boma for dinner is one of my favorites. Since you are staying at AKL this would be very convenient for you. The soups are especially good. Try them all. You can get a free tour at 4:00 daily at Boma and Jiko that includes small samples of soup at Boma and breads at Jiko.
Here's my list of 5 in order:
Boma
Nine Dragons
Morimoto
Olivia's (at Old Key West) it's fun to go by boat from the landing at D Springs
Grand Floridian Cafe

Thanks! I haven't tried any of those restaurants u listed! I am going to be checking those out on Youtube later! I am keen to try new places.

LIST OF PLACES WE HAVE DONE
1900 Park Fare
Ohana
Chef Mickey
Kona Café
Crystal Palace
Akershus (hated)
T-rex
Wolfgang Puck
Rainforest Café

Hmm 5 restaurants

1 Boma
2 Jiko's
3 Ohana's
4 Whispersing Canyon Café
5 Sci-Fi (my guilty pleasure)

I haven't been to enough TS for a top 5 yet, but here's my top 3!

Jiko
Sanaa
Tokyo Dining

Thanks Ken!

Whispering Canyon looks nice - I've seen videos
It's a blast I once made the mistake of asking for a 2nd diet coke in 10 minutes and they brought me out a huge mason jar that easily had 5 to 7 glasses in it and told me I could not leave until I drank the entire thing.

My Top Five (with young kids)

Sanaa - Bonus of seeing animals out of the windows during the daytime and it's at AKV Kidani
Hoop Dee Doo Review - Got to go to this at least once. Fun for ages 3 to 103.
Whispering Canyon Cafe - Just make sure to ask for ketchup and a large refill on your drink. :)
50's Prime Time Diner - Make sure to eat up your veggies or you might have to stand in the corner
Teppan Edo - Kids love the "Onion Volcano" and other tricks if they have never been to a Japanese Hibachi place before.

You have been to 1900 PF before - just have to say the buffet is ok, but the interaction with Lady Tremaine and the step sisters at dinner is the best we have encountered at WDW. Worth it just for that time and photos with them.

Enjoy!

You are staying at a Resort that has much to offer by way of food.

Boma for breakfast, Sanaa for lunch, and Jiko for dinner.

Start there, because traveling for food at Disney is not typically worth the effort, especially if trying to go resort-to-resort.

You get very little by traveling to Ohana for breakfast - unless you have some reason to meet Stitch here, instead of inside Magic Kingdom.

1900 Park Fare for dinner is amusing, but less so for children 3 & 7. But, unlike Ohana for breakfast, this at least makes some sense.

Seems to me that if you are traveling with young children, you'd benefit by eating inside the Parks. The rule-of-thumb from the guidebooks is that children have a 4-hours window before the need to break the routine. Meal times inside the Parks offer the opportunity for those diversions.

Not necessarily my fave list or my must-do list, but more list of places for families with kids who are newbies (not sure if OP is). I left off character meals since you listed two you already plan to do....we just did 1900 Park fare breakfast and it was spectacular (we did Chef Mickey dinner twice and I would recommend 1900 PF 100 times over Chef Mickey). I might switch and do Ohana dinner (no characters but fun and yummy and book 45 minutes before fireworks) and 1900 PF late breakfast.

Resort....Sanaa (Me, DH and DS love this) Ohana dinner is my kids number one place.
HS...Sci-Fi (we all like it, mostly for theme as food is average)
Epcot...Biergarten or Coral Reef (all 3 of my kids have always liked both of these)
MK....Be Our Guest (my girls like, DH and DS have not been)
AK....Yak and Yeti (all of us love this)
DS...Raglan Road is neat to try (me and DDs love this as do MIL and FIL)
My kids are DS-21 and twin DDs-19 and we've been about 20 times since 2003.

For 1 credit meals with kids (mine are 6 and 2):

Sanaa
Boma
Akershus
Be Our Guest (dinner) (is this 1 credit?)
Trattoria al Forno breakfast
Flying Fish Cafe (adults gotta have good food too)
Artist Point (ditto) (not sure if this is 1 credit)

We are trying Tiffin's on our upcoming trip, too.

My Top 5 with small children, in order:

'Ohana, dinner and breakfast
Teppan Edo
Biergarten
1900 Park Fare dinner
Sanaa
Since you are staying at AKL, I'll add Boma to the list as number 6. Boma and Sanaa are fantastic and it would be a shame for you to miss either one since you are going to be right there.

For what its worth, T-Rex is so stinking LOUD. I am a middle school band director with 60+ kids in a classroom and I do lunch duty regularly. I know loud. The food is not great, Le Car quality at BMW prices. Unless you have an avid dinosaur fan,a pair of earplugs, and a desire to have just some apps and beverages, I'd avoid it.

My top 5 with small kids (in no particular order):

BOG, Garden Grill, Biergarten, Sci Fi, Tusker House

Keep in mind these selections are more based on experience/atmosphere than food quality (although all of them have above average Disney food, IMO). At that age we tended to focus more on the "fun" restaurants than getting a 5 star meal.

1. Via Napoli - Great pizza if you like neopolitan style.
2. Sci-Fi - Great theming and good food.
3. BOG - Great theming and good food at dinner. Meet the Beast!
4. Garden Grill - Good food, character interaction and location. If you get a ppo Breakfast you can be one of the first on Soarin.
5. Yak and Yeti - Good food and theming.

Here are my 3 year old's top 5:

1) Boma
2) Sci-Fi
3) Tusker House
4) Biergarten
5) Garden Grill

Honorable mention: Coral Reef. Awesome experience, but the food... not so much. The food really has been hit or miss for us there. Years ago DH and I have an incredible meal, but I recently went with DS and the food was so-so. It wasn't good, but it wasn't horrible.

I don't have children, but I think these choices are kid friendly:

Be Our Guest
Rose and Crown
Teppan Edo
Boma
50s Prime Time Cafe

My Top 5 (and I have no kids, but I still think anybody of any age would enjoy these.)

1. Ohana
2. Chef Art Smith's Homecomin'
3. Teppan Edo
4. 50s Prime Time
5. Liberty Tree Tavern

My Top 5:

Morimoto, California grill, Boma, Crystal Palace, Ohana....

But I agree with everyone that says take advantage of all the AKL dining!
